Prince Edward Cannery In Full Operation

The Prince Edward County Cannery is in full operation. From July through September, the cannery is open Monday through Friday, starting at 7 a.m.
Located on Abilene Road, the cannery is equipped for preparing and heat processing food, which is then sealed into cans for safe storage. The Cannery is open to the citizens of Prince Edward County and surrounding counties and offers an inexpensive and effective method of preserving large amounts of fresh produce (fruits and vegetables) and meats.
What do you need to bring to the cannery to can your own produce? your own produce, meats; your own knives and peelers; extra help if you have a lot of produce – you must prepare your produce yourself; your own ingredients (sugar, spices, etc.); boxes to carry your cans home.
What does the cannery provide? canning equipment and the equipment operators; pots and pans; Ladles and other cooking utensils.
What is the cost of using the cannery? Call the Cannery and Lena Rose Huddleston, Cannery Manager, will provide you with all of the details.
Prince Edward County residents and non-residents are welcome to come out and see for themselves one of the best operated canneries in Virginia. If you have never canned before, the staff at the cannery is more than happy to help guide you. They cannot do your canning for you or clean up after you, but they are there to help support and safely process your garden vegetables and fruits so that you and your family can enjoy them throughout the year.
