DYB Majors Tournaments Begin Friday

Dixie Youth Baseball Minors District Tournaments begin around Southside Virginia this weekend. Three Herald-area teams will participate in two separate tournaments beginning Friday.
Buckingham's Gene Dixon Sr. Memorial Park will host this year's District IV Tournament beginning on Friday in Dillwyn.
After two years playing DYB O-Zone, both Powhatan teams return to the traditional Majors Tournament field this season. Those additions, combined with Cartersville's departure, gives District IV six teams.
As the Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournament bracket reads presently, three teams will advance to the DYB State Tournament, slated to begin on July 23 at the Botetourt Sports Complex in Troutville.
Powhatan American will play Amelia at 4 p.m. on Friday. Following opening ceremonies, Goochland will take on Powhatan National at 6:30 p.m.
Cumberland will play tournament host Buckingham in the night cap at 8:30 p.m.
Seven teams will participate in the District V Majors Tournament that begins on Friday in Victoria.

Prince Edward Farmville will play Blackstone at 4 p.m. in the first of three games.
At 6 p.m. Charlotte County will play Dinwiddie National in a rematch of last year's District V and State Tournament championship games, and at 8 p.m., host Lunenburg will take on Dinwiddie American.
Crewe-Burkeville receives the first-day bye, and will begin play on Saturday against the Lunenburg/Dinwiddie American winner.
