Peter Jay Menting, age 87, of Blackstone, passed away, Wednesday, June 18. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Menting and Mildred Hunter Menting.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Diane May Menting; his children, William Menting (Christine), Ellen Marie Bradley (Fred), Diane Marie Gendrow (Charles), and John Nolan; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; his brother, Reid Menting (Marilyn); and many nieces and nephews.
Peter and Diane moved to Blackstone in 1988. On May 4, 1986, Peter was ordained as a deacon in the Catholic Church. From 1992-2002, Peter was an Administrator in the Good Samaritan Catholic Church in Amelia. Peter was then stationed in the Central Virginia Catholic Cluster from 2002-2024. Peter worked at Xerox for 22 years, and was part of the custodial staff at the Board of Education in New York. He worked for A&E Supply, in Richmond, as a manager and he was an amazing woodworker, and clockmaker. Peter proudly served in the United States Navy.
The family will receive friends 10 – 11 a.m., Saturday, July 12, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 709 Buffalo Street, Farmville, where Mass services will begin at 12 p.m. Interment services will be held Sunday, July 13, following the 11 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2597 Bruceville Road, Meherrin.
