Jack Kelly Boswell of Drakes Branch, lovingly known as “Pop” to his many friends and family, peacefully returned home to the Lord on June 18, at the age of 82. Jack was born on May 16, 1943, in Richmond. Jack lived a full and hardworking life filled with love for his family, his land and the simple joys of country living.
Jack was known for his deep knowledge of all things mechanical—if it had wheels, he could fix it. From working on lawn mowers to maintaining his farm equipment, he found joy in working with his hands. He was a talented musician and took great joy in playing the guitar for his family.
A devoted NASCAR fan, he rarely missed a race, and he took great pride in caring for his farm and his many cats, ducks and chickens.
In his younger years, Jack was a licensed pilot and later worked as a truck driver for Estes, where he earned a reputation for reliability and a strong work ethic. His stories, wisdom and humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Boswell; his daughter, Tammy Embrey; his son, Kevin “Timmy” Boswell (Betty); his granddaughter, Amanda Smith (Brandon); his great-grandson, Bruce Smith; his sisters, Velma Randall (Fred) and JoAnn Halleran; his brother-in-law, Keith Jordan, who was like a son to him; his sisters-in-law, Marie “Gladys” Cooper (Travis), Nancy Williams and Wanda Kaus (Joe); and his many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on June 28, at Hatcher Baptist Church in Dillwyn, 5 Gravel Hill Road, at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Discovering the Jewish Jesus with Rabbi Schneider.
