Joseph Kyle BaldwinJoseph Kyle Baldwin, 98 of Rice, passed away on Feb. 11. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy in the China Sea. After the war he returned to Rice, where he raised tobacco crops. He rejoined the Navy the next year and retired in 1974 with the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.

Mr. Baldwin was preceded in death by his parents; sister; four brothers and his youngest son, Andy Baldwin.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pat; seven children, Richard Baldwin (Trish), Kay Woosley, Tracy Stephens (Mark), Ronald Baldwin (Anne), Kimberly Davis (Ted), Leroy Kirk and Pam Hite and 12 grandchildren, Annick, Stephen, and Preston Baldwin, Jamie and Jonathan Woosley, Kelley Davis, Max Baldwin, Bradley and Kyle Davis and Lionel, Dominique and Kyrann Hite.

A visitation was held on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home. A funeral service was held on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. in Amelia Veterans Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 7059, where Joe was a life member.
