Debra Sue Shumaker placed first in the Longwood Region in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) for Parliamentary Procedure. Debra and the other group members traveled to Reston April 8-10 and competed in the state competition. After conducting a business meeting, the Parliamentary Procedure team placed fourth in the state. The group was chaperoned by Mrs. Jessica Tibbs and Ms. Mary-Beth Blessing.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Stockton attended the karate demonstration at the YMCA on Saturday. Their grandson, Sean Stockton was one of those taking part.

A.J. Southall went with his Boy Scout Troop 6516, on a camping and biking trip to Smith Mountain Lake. They left Farmville April 8 and returned Sunday, April 10. Despite the rain, the boys and their Troop Leaders had a great experience. A.J. said he saw the most beautiful view he has ever seen from the top of the mountain. He also said he would be glad when he is old enough to have a tent to himself.

Jesse Southall has become quite the mechanic at the age of 15. He has gotten his father, Charles Southall's old logging truck running. He has also done repairs to his granny's and aunt's cars. Also, on April 7, Jesse failed to clear a tennis net while jumping over. He had a trip to the emergency room, stitches to his chin, and a possible broken elbow. He is currently on a break from being the family mechanic.

Mrs. Pat Smith will meet with her college roommate Mrs. Carolyn Boyd this Friday for lunch in Appomattox.

Richard Stockton and Mrs. Frances S. Turner received word on Monday their Aunt Helen Shelton, of Weaverville, NC, had died. Prayers and sympathy are being extended to the family.

Mrs. Betty Meadows, Mrs. Evelyn Trinkle and Mrs. Lora Snody motored to the Virginia Museum of Fire Art in Richmond on Monday to view the Picasso Exhibit. They report the exhibit was very interesting.

Shirley Fulcher, Evelyn Shelton and Shirley Mottley attended the “Super Senior Day at Calvary Baptist Church in Concord on Saturday. They enjoyed the day.

Mr. and Mrs. John (Shirley) Fulcher enjoyed the Relay for Life held at Longwood University on Friday night.

Mr. and Mrs. John (Nancy) Mottley and Mrs. Linda Smith traveled to Suffolk on Saturday to pick up their great-granddaughter/granddaughter Hannah Thompson to spend this week with them.

Mrs. Flora Bolt attended the 5K Run Benefit for her grandson, Joshua Bolt April 16 at the “Manor” golf coarse. It was a cold, rainy day but the spirits were high. Lots of people came out to walk or run. President Finnegan of Longwood University spoke at the event. Meghan Greene, chairperson and organizer for the run also spoke. She had cute tee shirts for everyone which read “Bolt for Joshua.” His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kyle (Jennifer) Bolt, took him to the event. Joshua is their nine year old son with cerebral palsy caused by a brain injury which effects his muscles causing him to not walk or talk. Joshua is on a home program to help him walk and talk. He has recently learned to feed himself. He can walk now with assistance. He kicked off the race by blowing the horn and with assistance walked almost a half mile. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vince (Linda) Eikmeier, from Richmond came to walk in the “special event” as did his Uncle Vince Eikmeier Jr.

Sunday afternoon Mrs. Flora Bolt and Mr. and Mrs. Steve (Terri) Bolt took Brandon, of Buckingham, to watch his friend, Jeremy Orange ride in a race on his dirt bike. Flora, Steve and Terri had a delicious lunch at “The Depot Diner and Grill” at Dillwyn.

Family, friends and neighbors are sending special get well wishes to all those who are sick at this time. Abby Kelsey, Judy Jamieson, Lon Stockton, Jeff Smith and Ray Kelsey are in need of your special prayers. Ray is in the hospital at this time.

Friends and neighbors are extending their sincere sympathy to those who have lost loved ones this past week.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m with worship at 11am. Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will fill the pulpit this Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Robert Hall will be in the pulpit this Sunday.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30am. Calvary Chapel is holding an Easter service this Wednesday evening. Also a communion service on Good Friday and a sunrise service on Easter in addition to the normal Sunday morning service. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
