Jane Barr Gay, 95

MINNESOTA, April 14 – Jane Barr Gay, 95, widow of Phillip F. Gay Sr., died on Saturday, April 9, 2011 under the care of her family and the Minnesota Community Hospice at the Lodge on Natchez in Elko, Minnesota.

Mrs. Gay was a retired insurance agent for Modern Woodmen of America and served for many years as director for the Modern Woodmen of America Junior Service Club in Farmville. She is a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church, a member of the Farmville Rebecca's, Farmville Moose Lodge, and Charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Farmville Volunteer Fire Dept.

Her hobbies and activities included crocheting, gardening, traveling, fishing, cooking, reading, serving and spending summers in Minnesota with her granddaughter, Denise and family. She spent much of her life in volunteer service helping others.

She is survived by a daughter, Beatrice Wallace and son-in-law, Richard of Farmville; son, Phillip F. Gay Jr. and wife, Janet of King George; granddaughters, Denise Wallace Heitkamp and husband, Craig of Savage, MN and Michele “Shell” Wallace of Carolina Beach, NC; grandson, Phillip F. Gay III of Alpine, TX; granddaughter, Heather Gay Hutchinson and husband, David of Virginia Beach; great-grandchildren, David Richard Heitkamp of Savage, MN, Gabe Elahwal and Nick Hutchinson of Virginia Beach; brother, Grover Barr and wife, Louise, of Farmville, and sister-in-law, Kathleen “Cotton” Barr of Farmville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip F. Gay Sr. and a son, John Joseph “J.J.” Gay, parents, William Clarence Barr and Rutha Moore Barr, siblings, Etta Barr Riddle and husband, Dewey, Clarence Barr and wife, Annie Mae, Ella Barr Newcomb and husband, Lacy, Margaret “Peggy” Miles and husband, Chuck, sister, Victoria Barr Bordeaux and husband, Ben and brother, Robert “Bob” Barr.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church with interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice.

Family will receive friends Saturday, April 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home.
