As we reach less than a week before Christmas, there’s still a live nativity in Farmville, a concert and several other activities going on. Here’s a look at the celebrations and other events happening throughout the region.
DECEMBER 20
LIVE NATIVITY – Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will present a Live Nativity on Friday, Dec. 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. You can drive around or park and visit three scenes. Cookies and hot chocolate will be available.
DECEMBER 21
TOY GIVEAWAY – The Prince Edward Elks Lodge, located at 646 South Main St. in Farmville, will hold a toy giveaway on Saturday, Dec. 21. The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon, with one specific rule. Children must be present in order to receive a toy.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT – New Witt Baptist Church, located at 7469 Meherrin Road in Farmville, will hold a Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 21. The event begins at 11 a.m., with lunch served after.
LIVE NATIVITY – Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will present a Live Nativity on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. You can drive around or park and visit three scenes. Cookies and hot chocolate will be available.
DECEMBER 22
CHRISTMAS SERVICE – Johns Memorial Episcopal Church in Farmville will continue their Advent series on Sunday, Dec. 22 during both the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. The 10:30 a.m. service will feature both the choir and organ accompaniment.
CANDLELIGHT SERVICE – Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold a Christmas Hymn Singing and Candlelight Service on Sunday, Dec. 22, beginning at 6 p.m. The hymn sing will feature Joe McAlister, a Christian country music singer, along with his band Handpicked. Cumberland Presbyterian Church is located at 1835 Cumberland Road (Route 45), three miles north of Farmville.
DECEMBER 23
DILLWYN CHRISTMAS CAROLS – Dillwyn’s Pocket Park will play host to a night of Christmas carols, cookies and cocoa as we count down to the big day. That’ll be on Monday, Dec. 23 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Pocket Park is on Main Street in Dillwyn, across from the railroad tracks.
DECEMBER 24
CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE – Johns Memorial Episcopal Church in Farmville will hold a Christmas Eve carol singing at 5 p.m., followed by Holy Eucharist at 5:30 p.m.
CHILDREN’S SERVICE – Farmville United Methodist Church will hold a service just for kids and their families, starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24. It’s a ‘spontaneous Christmas pageant’, where everyone can play a role. The church is located at 212 High Street, with parking found in the lot behind the church.
CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE – Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold a Christmas Eve service, starting at 6 p.m.
TRADITIONAL SERVICE – Farmville United Methodist Church, located at 212 High Street, will hold a traditional Christmas Eve service with candlelight, carols and Holy Communion on Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.
DECEMBER 25
CHRISTMAS DAY SERVICE – Johns Memorial Episcopal Church in Farmville will celebrate Holy Eucharist on Wednesday, Dec. 25, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
DECEMBER 29
CHRISTMAS CONCERT – St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Dillwyn will hold their annual Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 29. That’ll run from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. The third annual event is free and open to the public. Free hot chocolate and home-baked goodies will be available throughout the concert.
JANUARY 11
BEEKEEPERS CONFERENCE – Registration is open for the Heart of Virginia Beekeepers third annual Beekeepers Conference. That’ll be held on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hampden-Sydney College. The keynote speaker is Paul Kelly, Research and Apiary Manager at the University of Guelph Honey Bee Research Centre in Ontario.
