Dr. R. P. Moore, 87 Former Resident, Dies In Richmond

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Dec. 9 – Dr. Robert Patrick Moore, 87, of Richmond, died December 2, 2008 after a brief illness.

He was a son of the late Dr. Ray Atkinson Moore and Pauline Smith Moore.

Dr. Moore was born in Charlotte County and grew up in Hampden-Sydney where his father served as college physician for Hampden-Sydney College and Longwood College, in addition to a general practice in Farmville.

He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1943, and the Medical College of Virginia in 1946. He served active duty in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1950.

Dr. Moore returned to Richmond to practice at Ennion G. Williams Hospital. He retired in 1986.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Reynolds Moore; his daughter, Ellen M. Walk and her husband, John; son, Robert P. Moore Jr. and his wife, Marilyn; grandchildren, Sarah P. Walk, John R. Walk Jr., Robert A. Moore, and Michael P. Moore; brothers, Dr. John A. Moore and William A. Moore; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Ray A. Moore Jr.

A memorial service was conducted on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Richmond.
