It was a great weekend for kids and adults in the Sixty West Jets AAU Track Club. The group, based out of Cumberland County, competed on Saturday, Dec. 7 in the annual Howard “H” White Track Classic, bringing home silver and bronze.
The Sixty West team took home silver in the 5th/6th grade boys 4×200 relay, while the 7th/8th grade girls also got silver in the shot put. The 3rd/4th grade boys brought home a bronze medal in the shot put. Making up the Sixty West team were Daylin Watson, Brandon Johnson, Sadie Fletcher, William Fletcher, Bren Woodson-Trent, Daryn Woodson-Trent, Jordan Bragg and Brycen Foster.
The event was held this year at the Boo Williams Sports Plex in Hampton, a nationally recognized sports and learning facility. It routinely houses everything from volleyball tournaments to track and field national championships, so to win here is a pretty solid accomplishment. And win is exactly what members of the track club did.
Howard “H” White was a standout basketball point guard for the University of Maryland. You may not know his name, but you definitely know the company he works for, as White is the vice president of Michael Jordan Brand. He also, with the support of Nike, founded the “Believe to Achieve “ program.
