Paul T. Hipps, 75 US Army Veteran Dies Sat., April 18

APPOMATTOX, April 21 – Paul T. Hipps, 75, of Appomattox, departed this life Saturday, April 18, 2009 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Greene County, Tennessee May 11, 1933, to Grover S. and Emmaline Coates Hipps. He was a self-employed mechanic and farmer and was a US Army veteran.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Joyce Hook Hipps; three sons, Ronald Paul Hipps (Tamika) of Madison Heights, Michael Glenn Hipps (Janet) of Drakes Branch and Thomas Grant Hipps of Tappahannock; a daughter, Jeannette Hipps Martin of Charlotte NC; two granddaughters, Kelli Hipps of Hawaii and Michaela Hipps of Drakes Branch; three brothers, Robert S. Hipps (Vevil) of Greeneville, TN, Mark Hipps (Mildred) of Pamplin and Luke Hipps (Gertrude) of Cortland, IL; three sisters, May Belle H. McCarty of Sheffield Lakes, OH, Ollie Belle H. Vaughan of Brentwood, TN and Ruth “Hannah” H. Arrington of Tappahannock; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy P. Hipps (Bryant) of Sycamore, IL, Margery Holt Hipps (Clyde) of Afton, TN and Lois Doty Hipps (Dwight) of Anniston, AL and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Grover Harley Hipps (childhood), Benjamin Raymond Hipps (infancy), Clyde M. Hipps, Aden Dwight Hipps and Harold Bryant Hipps.

Funeral arrangements by Shorter Funeral Home with graveside service and interment in Veterans Cemetery of Virginia, Amelia, were on Tuesday (today).
