No, the Farmville McDonalds wasn’t engulfed in flames Sunday night, as some people believed. While members of the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department did respond to a call at the location, it was for a slightly smaller cause.

After taking part in the Farmville Christmas Parade Sunday, members of the department had to turn on their lights and go to a call.  At 5:28 p.m., the department received a call that the inside of the Farmville McDonalds at 3410 Cooperative Way was “smoking”. The belief was that it was coming from one of the fryers, however it smelled like “regular smoke”, not electrical smoke, the McDonalds staff reported. At the time, it was unclear what triggered the smoke, so firefighters checked out parts of the restaurant in full turnout gear. After that investigation, they found there was no actual fire.

“There was some smoke inside, caused by mechanical issues,” Farmville Fire Chief Daniel Clark told The Herald. “There was no fire.”

The restaurant was back open within an hour and serving customers. It’s going to operate back on regular schedule Monday.
