Hampden-Sydney College finished sixth at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) cross country championships on Saturday, Nov. 2. A Farmville native and one student from Arvonia in Buckingham County were among the Tigers who competed during the event, as multiple players set personal records on the day.

Sophomore and Arvonia resident Haden VonCanon finished 70th out of 117 runners on the day, recording a time of 28:58. Keysville’s Jefferson Duffey finished 100th, with a time of 33:18:4, while Farmville native and Hampden-Sydney freshman Isaiah Leonard placed 103, just behind his teammate with a time of 34:02:4.

As for the rest, Sophomore Jackson Herndon posted an 8K time of 27:47.5 to lead the Tigers. Herndon ran the 34th-best time in program history to place 53rd among 117 runners as the Tigers totaled 191 points to finish sixth among the 11 teams-their best finish since the conference expanded beyond 10 teams in 2012 and equaling their highest placing at the conference championships since 2008 (sixth of 10). The University of Lynchburg won the team race with its 18 points, while Chasen Hunt of the Hornets was the individual winner with a time of 24:53.1. Herndon now has four 8K times listed among the program’s all-time Top 50, including his collegiate-best of 27:04.0 (8th-best).
