Trick or Treat: A look at Halloween events happening in the area

Over the next week, towns, churches, fire departments, schools and community organizations will be giving away candy at trick or treat events throughout the area. Here’s a look at where and when each one is happening.
OCTOBER 25
HAUNTED TRAIL – Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will hold a haunted trail on Friday, Oct. 25. The trail runs every 10 minutes, beginning at 6 p.m., with the first hour geared toward little ones. The scare factor jumps up at 7 p.m. Buying a ticket for the trail also includes access to the bounce house and face painting. There will also be a pumpkin patch, with paint and carving kits. Tickets are $10 online at sandyriveroutdooradventures.com or $15 at the door. For information, call 434-392-7275.
CUMBERLAND TRUNK OR TREAT – Cumberland County will hold its annual Trunk or Treat event on Friday, Oct. 25, running from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. That’ll be at the Cumberland Community Center, located at 1874 Anderson Highway.
OCTOBER 26
NO TRICKS, ALL TREATS – Oakwood Homes of Farmville will hold a ‘No Tricks, All Treats’ Halloween event at their office on Saturday, Oct. 26, giving away candy from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. That’s located at 2967 W. Third Street in Farmville.
HOWL-O-WEEN CONTEST – Three Roads Brewing, located at 406 W. Third Street in Farmville, will hold a Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest on Saturday, Oct. 26, with proceeds going to benefit the Southside SPCA. The event begins at noon, with a $10 entry fee for your pet that goes to the SPCA. You can register by clicking here.
FALL FESTIVAL – New Store Baptist Church will hold a fall fest on Saturday, October 26, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be face painting, trunk-or-treat, games, activities and crafts. The church is located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville.
FALL FESTIVAL – Spring Creek Baptist Church, located at 918 Darlington Heights Road, will hold its annual fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be hay rides, a bounce house, games with prizes and a cake walk. The church will have hot dogs, chips and drinks, cotton candy and donut holes, with a trunk or treat at 3:30 p.m. A stew fundraiser will also be held, with money going to the youth fellowship.
RICE TRUNK OR TREAT – The Rice Volunteer Fire Department, located at 948 Rices Depot Road, will hold a Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

SPOOKY HOLLOW – Historic Buckingham will hold their Spooky Hollow Drive Thru fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. This will take place in the Historic Village at Lee Wayside at 84 Lee Wayside Road in Buckingham, two miles west of Sprouse’s Corner, just off of Route 60. Admission is only $10 per car.
HALLOWEEN PARTY – North Street Press Club, located at 127 North Street in Farmville, will hold a Halloween Party on Saturday, Oct. 26. That’ll run from 9 p.m. until 1:30 a.m., featuring a costume contest with $250 for first place.
OCTOBER 30
HSC TRICK OR TREAT – Hampden-Sydney College will hold a Trunk or Treat event on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Organized by the faculty, staff and students, the Via Sacra will be closed to thru traffic to allow people to Trick or Treat from Pauley Science Center to Bortz Library. The school is located at 106 Pannill Drive.
TRUNK OR TREAT – The Fishin’ Pig, located at 1807 S. Main Street in Farmville, will hold a Trunk or Treat event on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
OCTOBER 31
FARMVILLE HALLOWEEN PARADE – The Farmville Halloween Parade begins at 4 p.m. in the downtown area. From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., families can go from business to business and collect candy, while also taking part in this year’s costume contest.
TRUNK OR TREAT – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will hold a trunk or treat event on Thursday, Oct. 31. There will be free hotdogs, chips and drinks for everyone, with candy and games for the kids. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
TRUNK OR TREAT – Sacred Heart Church, located at 2597 Bruceville Road in Meherrin, will hold a Trunk or Treat event on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
TRUNK-OR-TREAT – A Great Escape Salon is having a Trunk or Treat event in the business’s parking lot on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. after the Main Street Trick or Treat. That’s located at 203 E. Third Street in Farmville.
TRUNK OR TREAT – Cartersville Baptist Church, located at 25 High Street in Cartersville, will hold a Trunk or Treat event on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the church parking lot.
TRUNK OR TREAT – Darlington Heights Fire Department located at 2673 Darlington Heights Road, will hold a Trunk or Treat event on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will also be games, a cake walk and plenty of food on hand.
TRUNK OR TREAT – Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold a trunk or treat event with games, activities and treats from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.
TRUNK OR TREAT – Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold a Trunk or Treat event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.
