Dear Editor,

An article in the October 11 edition asked; “Should fences require a permit?” The answer is an emphatic no!

As the article points out, this dispute is between two neighbors, one of whom has put up a fence blocking the view of traffic for the other and causing a safety issue, not just for the neighbor, but anyone else on the road as well. Common sense and common courtesy would dictate that if a fence caused safety issues, the owner of same would make adjustments.

Sadly, we live in a world where people have forgotten what rational, adult behavior looks like.

Two people who can’t act like civilized adults is absolutely not a reason to inconvenience the other 7,474 (2024 estimated population) residents, or require reasonable people to pay an additional $500.00 for a fence.

I wonder how long either of these neighbors would continue their foolishness if they were to be publicly named and shamed?
