Louise “Peepsie” Brooks Howard, born in Farmville on Oct, 17, 1926, died Oct, 5.
At Farmville High School, “Peepsie” was president of her senior class and played Varsity Hockey and Basketball. She also counseled swimming at Camp Mont Shenandoah.
A graduate of State Teachers College in Farmville (now Longwood University) in 1948, she was president of her class all four years. Upon graduation she taught elementary school in Richmond and Alexandria.
She married John Walker Howard Jr. on July 15, 1950 and raised two sons, John Walker HowardIII (deceased) and William Brooks Howard.
Active in the community, she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for 60 years, serving as Chapter Regent from 1979-1981 and a member of The Alexandria Twig for 60 years. She was active at Belle Haven Country Club where she played tennis, golf, bridge and was an active swimmer.
“Peepsie” is survived by her husband of 74 years, John Walker Howard Jr.; brother, Edgar Davis Brooks of High Point, North Carolina; son, William Brooks Howard (Julie), and grandchildren, William Brooks Howard Jr. (Allie) and Anne Walker Howard.
Memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 11, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2911 Cameron Mills Road, Alexandria. Internment was private. A reception followed at Belle Haven Country Club.
Visitation was at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m..
