OCTOBER 19

STEW FUNDRAISER — The Mercy Seat Baptist Church Missionary Ministry will hold a stew and cornbread fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 19. The event will be held at the Turn Out Grounds across from Mercy Seat Baptist, starting at noon. Stew will be sold by the quart for $12. 

VFW FISH FRY — The VFW Post 7059, located at 1919 Graham Drive in Farmville, will hold a fish fry on Saturday, Oct. 19. The catfish dinner will run from noon to 4 p.m., including the catfish, hushpuppies, two sides and a drink for $15. FISH FRY — The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold a fish fry fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Farmville Farmers’ Market. For $15, residents get fish, BBQ slaw, baked beans, chips, dessert and a drink, along with live music and a chance to meet candidates. CHURCH WORKSHOP — The Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Dillwyn will hold a workshop on being a kingdom priesthood on Saturday, Oct. 19. The presenter will be Minister Jermaine Battle and the session will run from 3 to 4 p.m. This is part of a series of workshops, organized by the church. 

CRUISE-IN — The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its last cruise-in of the season on Saturday, Oct. 19. That’ll take place in the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. The event will run from 5 p.m. until dusk, with people welcome to either bring a car to show or just come to check them out. 

PLAY PERFORMANCE — Waterworks Players Community Theatre will perform The Addams Family: A New Musical, on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 and available online at https://waterworksplayers.org/buytickets.  

OCTOBER 20 

WOMEN’S DAY — Midway Baptist Church, located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville, will hold their annual Women’s Day on Sunday, Oct. 20 during the 11 a.m. service. The guest minister will be Rev. Shandell Berryman-Howell, Pastor of New Witt Baptist Church. Women are asked to wear white. 

CASUAL DRESS SUNDAY — St. Andrews Baptist Church, located at 2100 Taro Road in Cullen, will have Casual Dress Sunday on Sunday, Oct. 20. Residents can wear your favorite team’s jersey, a t-shirt and jeans. Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. 

MEN’S DAY — Jericho Baptist Church in Farmville will celebrate Men’s Day on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. The guest preacher will be Rev. F. Wayne Henley from Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Providence Forge. 

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY — Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1155 Hendricks Road in Pamplin, will celebrate their 118th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 20, beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Walker from Sulphur Spring Baptist Church will deliver the message, with a light lunch served beforehand. 

CHOIR ANNIVERSARY — The High Bridge Baptist Church Inspirational Choir will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 20, beginning at 2 p.m. A number of choirs and other musical groups will be on the program, making a joyful noise unto the Lord. The church is located at 2526 Lockett Road in Rice. 

OCTOBER 21 

NAACP MEETING — The Prince Edward NAACP will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 at the Moton Museum. 

OCTOBER 22

CONSERVATION MEETING — The Piedmont Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Directors will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. That’ll take place at the Prince Edward County Agriculture Building, located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. The Personnel Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. 

OCTOBER 25

SPAGHETTI FUNDRAISER — Payne Memorial Church will hold a spaghetti fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 25. The meal includes spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert. People can eat in the fellowship hall or take it to go. The cost is whatever donation you will give, with money going to the church’s building fund. Delivery is also available locally. The church is located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland and the meal starts at 11 a.m. until sold out. 

CLOTHES GIVEAWAY — Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will hold a clothing giveaway on Friday, Oct. 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be 400 coats and 400 pairs of shoes, along with clothes for all ages. 

CHAMPAGNE & CHOCOLATE GALA — The Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library will hold a Champagne and Chocolate Gala on Friday, Oct. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. Proceeds will go to directly fund library programs. There will be refreshments, a special storytime about why the library is named a “community library”, recognition of the top donor and music from the jazz/blues trio Jackson, Pendergrass and Townsend. Tickets can be brought at the library for $25. 

OCTOBER 26 

RAPTOR ROUNDUP — The Friends of Twin Lakes State Park will hold their annual Raptor Roundup on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. That’ll be at the Cedar Crest Conference Center, located at 22 Cedar Crest Road in Green Bay. The event highlights the world of raptors, with local experts coming to talk about the birds. Local raptors will also be on display. There will be kites to decorate and homemade chili to sample. 

FALL FESTIVAL — New Store Baptist Church will hold a fall fest on Saturday, October 26, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. There will be face painting, trunk-or-treat, games, activities and crafts. The church is located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville. 

CHURCH WORKSHOP — The Prince Edward Deacons Union and the South-Central Deaconess Union will host a workshop conducted by Rev. Osa Dowdy of the Baptist Convention on Saturday, Oct. 26. The focus of the meeting will be on holy communion, with the event being held at 3 p.m. at the fellowship hall of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The church is located at 1913 Tuggle Road in Farmville. 

OCTOBER 28 

DEMOCRATIC MEETING — The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Extension office. 

OCTOBER 29 

DEMOCRAT MEETING — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. That’ll take place at 54 Administration Lane in the Agriculture Building. 

OCTOBER 31

TRUNK OR TREAT — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will hold a trunk or treat event on Thursday, Oct. 31. There will be free hotdogs, chips and drinks for everyone, with candy and games for the kids. The event runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. 

TRUNK OR TREAT — Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold a trunk or treat event with games, activities and treats from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.

NOVEMBER 1 – 2

CHRISTMAS MARKET — Farmville United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Market on Friday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The church is located at 212 High Street in Farmville, with proceeds going to support local missions.

NOVEMBER 2

FALL FESTIVAL — Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road, will hold a fall festival on Saturday, Nov. 2 from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a straw bale maze, a bounce house, pumpkin painting and hay rides. 

YOUTH EXPLOSION — Midway Baptist Church’s Youth and Young Adult Ministry will hold a Youth Explosion on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m.

NOVEMBER 9

VETERANS DAY EXTRAVAGANZA – Farmville will host A Salute to Veterans on Saturday, Nov. 9. The event will be held at Three Roads Brewery, located at 312 W. Third Street, starting at 1 p.m. The Farmville Brass Band will perform, along with Sweet Adelines, with an Honor Guard and military displays

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS – Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Thursday at noon in the Pay Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland.

The Guinea service is at 10 a.m. at the church, located at 1176 Guinea Road in Farmville. The Cumberland service is held at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, beginning every Sunday at 11:15 a.m. 

TRIUMPH BAPTIST CHURCH – Triumph Baptist Church, located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Prince Edward County, welcomes everyone to services each Sunday. Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. followed by Prayer/Praise and worship service at 11:00 a.m. Worship Service is live streamed on the church Facebook page.  Rev. Morris Garner is the pastor.

EXERCISE CLASS – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, holds an exercise class every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. It’s free and all are welcome to attend.

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP – Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT – An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. NEW BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH – New Bethel Baptist Church in Meherrin will hold worship services on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School will be held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH – Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville holds services each Sunday morning, with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Worship Service at 11 a.m. A fellowship with donuts and coffee is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend. 

SOUP FOR THE SOUL – Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold “Soup for the Soul” the third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 10 a.m. Church volunteers prepare soup to be taken out to those who need a visit. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FARMVILLE — First Baptist Church located at the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville hosts Sunday worship at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The Rev. Dr. James P. Ashton leads the services. At this time, face masks and social distancing are required inside of the sanctuary.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEETING — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Agricultural Building in Buckingham County. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon. 

FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. FARMVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. holds in-service worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday with Rev. Dr. Pete Smith. The church also livestreams their church Facebook page and posts services on YouTube (search for the church name). FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.

MEMOIR WRITING GROUP – The group, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, encourages new people to join. The meetings take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Farmville Library’s main meeting room. Call Joan at (434)-607-1576 for more information.
