Dear Editor,

As freedom loving Americans, we depend on conservatism and liberalism working together to keep us from the threat of an authoritarian government. I want a president, not a king and not a dictator.   The constant lies and hostilities have desensitized us to the point that they are now the norm.

Our forefathers knew the perils of our democratic experiment; they knew the vulnerability of their dreams for the average man (yes, just men at the time).  It didn’t take long to realize that we wouldn’t be a one-party system.  Abraham Lincoln led a four-year war because of his extraordinary belief in freedom for all within the United States.

One writer, in a recently published Letter to The Editor, suggested that those of us who do not hold his extremist opinions are supporting satanic chaos, corruption and communism.  With such a maliciously abusive rant, it is no wonder that our county continues to face such struggles in getting Officers of Election to serve on November 5, 2024. Trump’s efforts to overthrow our government failed, but his violence and dangerous lies remain a threat to our Democratic Republic, where we vote for our representatives.

The chaotic evil came to Charlottesville on August 11 and 12, 2017, murdering Heather Heyer.  It came again in the planned malicious attack on our US Capitol on January 6, 2021, when the presidential contender refused the peaceful transfer of power, leading a mob of his followers to overthrow our government, going so far as building gallows to hang his Vice President. VP Pence was upholding his commitment to our Constitution.

Many people fought and died for the freedom from the fascism that is raising its hideous head again. This time it is led by Trump and his extremist followers.  True Republican Conservatives are identified as RINOS.

The Democratic National Convention was planned and executed with a joyfulness that has no parallel in politics.  Hate and chaos were not present.  Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are well-balanced, honest, intelligent leaders. They are here for the people; they serve all of us.  President Biden has demonstrated his humanity, empathy and integrity throughout his life. He led our economic recovery after the Covid Pandemic. His many achievements include lower gas prices and the addition of nearly 15 million jobs.  The republican congress  backed out of the bipartisan immigration bill when Trump feared that it would hurt his election chances.

The proposal of misconduct of President Biden and Vice President Harris is absurd and ridiculous especially as it comes from supporters of the guy with 34 felony convictions and a sexual assault conviction.

I hope that our community will support and vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Tim Walz, Senator Tim Kaine and our own Gloria Witt.   These four candidates represent the intelligence, integrity, and experience needed to lead us forward.
