BUCKINGHAM — There will be a Rabies Vaccination Clinic at the Buckingham Agricultural Center on Saturday, February 19, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Vaccinations will be $6 per dog or cat. All cats must be restrained by cage or crate; and owners will be responsible for their cats.
The clinic is sponsored by the Buckingham County Health Department and the Buckingham County Animal Control Office. Dr. Elizabeth G. Hazlegrove will be the attending veterinarian.
Virginia law requires the owner or custodian of all dogs and domesticated cats four months of age and older to have them currently vaccinated for rabies by a licensed veterinarian.
Make sure your pet is vaccinated. It's the law. And, it's the best way to protect your family and your pets from this dreaded disease.
The Auxiliary of the Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department will be sponsoring the Miss Buckingham Pageant again this year and registration is set for Saturday, February 19, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, at the Dillwyn Fire Station.
Contestants must bring their completed application form with sponsorship and advertisements. Please note that contestant photographs will be taken for the program.
With age divisions and titles for ages three through 21, the pageant will be held on Saturday, March 5, in the auditorium of Buckingham County High School.

Masons of George Lodge 32 and the great cooks at Glenmore United Methodist Church are hosting their annual Oyster and Ham Dinner on Saturday, February 19, at 4 p.m., in the church's fellowship hall.
The menu features fried oysters, oyster stew, or country ham; green beans, potato casserole, rolls, and beverage.
Price-a donation to help continue the good works of the George Lodge; and, to help Glenmore UMC further its service in Christ's name.
Menu items are offered on a first come first served basis so you'll want to be there when the doors open. Glenmore UMC is located on Route 602, Howardsville Road, just north of Downtown Glenmore.

The meeting of the United Baptist Association of Central Virginia, which was scheduled for Saturday, February 19, at 10 a.m. at the Frances Redwood Educational Center, has been postponed.
On Sunday, February 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., the Woman's Club of Buckingham County will host an Open House and Reception at the Buckingham Arts Center for its 2011 WCBC Arts and Crafts Exhibit. Entries from the WCBC Literary Contest will also be on display.
During the open house, you'll be able to view the exhibit, meet the artists, crafters, and writers, and enjoy light refreshments.
The final day of the exhibit will be Sunday, February 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. On that day, at the close of the exhibit, entries may be picked-up between 4 to 5 p.m.

Cloverbud Camps are designed to introduce children ages five to eight to the 4-H camping experience.
Participants experience the fun and excitement of the 4-H camping program as they learn new things, sing great camp songs, and play fun camp games. There is a trained volunteer leader for every five campers. By the way, to find out about becoming one of those volunteers call the Extension Office at 969-4261.
The 2011 Winter Cloverbud Camp is scheduled for February 25 through 27. Limited to 30 boys and 30 girls, campers will stay in heated bunkhouses.
Cost is $60 and covers all programming fees, meals, lodging, and a t-shirt.
Summer Cloverbud Weekend is planned for June 10-12. Summer camp is limited to 50 boys and 50 girls. Cost is $75 and covers all programming fees, special activity fees, meals, lodging, and a t-shirt.
These camps fill very quickly so you might want to register today or ASAP.
Nationally known speaker, Dr. Ray Nebel, will be at the Buckingham Extension Office on Thursday, February 24, at 5:30 p.m., to discuss the most cutting-edge artificial insemination synchronization programs for cattle. He will also be discussing reproductive updates.
Cost is $6 per person and includes dinner. There is a limit of 45 participants so call the Buckingham Extension Office at (434)969-4261 for registration.
The Auxiliary of the Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department is hosting CASH Bingo on Friday, February 25, at the Dillwyn Fire Station.
Bingo begins at 7 p.m. However, the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. so that participants will be able to fuel-up with some great bingo boosting food. Bingo packets will be $20.
Mt Zion Baptist Church, in New Canton, is hosting a Children's Ministry Day on Saturday, February 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., for children ages 5 to 12 years-old.
With the theme Neighbor to Neighbor, the day will be filled with praise and worship. Activities include a Red Cross mission project, craft, clown skit, puppet show, and prayer walk-all based on Love your neighbor as you love yourself, Leviticus 19:18.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and lunch will be provided.

The Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department has launched a fundraiser that's going to offer one lucky ticket holder a super ride through the second half of 2011.
To help raise funds for its new tanker truck, the DVFD is sponsoring a raffle for a 2011 Harley Davidson FXDC Super Glide Custom Motorcycle.
Although tickets are $100, only 300 tickets will be sold, which definitely boosts your odds for being the one to ride that super glide.
To get your ticket, contact any Dillwyn firefighter.
The drawing will be held on July 9, 11 a.m., at the Dillwyn Firehouse. But, due to the limited numbers, you won't want to wait until the last minute to get yours.

On Friday, March 11, friends of Dr. Anderson are hosting an appreciation dinner for him as they celebrate his many years of service to this community and beyond.
In the summer of 2000, Dr. Anderson opened the Andersonville Animal Clinic. However, prior to his move back to his native Buckingham, he operated a successful veterinarian practice in Tampa, Florida.
In conjunction with his work at the Andersonville Animal Clinic, Dr. Anderson and his wife Lora are credited with rescuing and finding homes for over 3,000 stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals in the area.
His good works also involve presenting educational programs in area schools and the community; rescuing wildlife under Virginia's approved guidelines; and, assisting in training for the county's animal control officers.
The dinner will be held at the Family Life Center/Gymnasium of the Nazarene Campground, 1151 High School Road, Route 690, across from Buckingham County Middle School.
Plans include registration at 6 p.m.; and, dinner from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. During that time, Cody Moss will be providing music.
After dinner, a program will feature tributes and presentations to Dr. Anderson. The evening will conclude with coffee and cake.
