BUCKINGHAM — On Friday, February 4, at 4:30 p.m., the new building committee for the Buckingham County Public Library will meet to review an architectural proposal for a conceptual drawing of what a new library might look like.
It's an exciting time for the library. The Buckingham Board of Supervisors agreed to donate a site in the industrial park for the library; and, the committee is in the process of seeking a conceptual drawing so the process of grant writing and fundraising can begin.
This meeting is open to the public. The Buckingham County Public Library is located at 1140 Main Street, on Route 15 in Dillwyn.
Here's a great way to spend Saturday night. Spreading God's Gifts, a non-profit Christian organization with the will and desire to help those in need, is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner on February 5, 6 p.m., at Buckingham County Middle School.
The menu features a spaghetti dinner with salad, bread, dessert, and beverage.
Along with the meal, there will be great music by Smokey Wilson and Kathy Whatley.
Additionally, Captured Memories Photography will be on hand to take family and/or individual portraits.
Admission is by donation to Spreading God's Gifts. This event is sponsored by Browns Chapel United Methodist Church, Concord Baptist Church, Wharam's Welding, Steger Insurance, and Thomas Insurance.

On Saturday, February 5, the Bruiser Wrestling Federation is bringing Pro Wrestling to Buckingham County High School. This event is a fundraiser for the Buckingham County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the first match starts at 8. All ringside seats are $12 at the door or $10 in advance. General admission for adults is $10 at the door and $8 in advance; for kids/students, $7 at the door and $6 in advance. Children under five will be admitted free with a paying adult.

New Hope Baptist Church will host its annual Black History Service on Sunday, February 6, at 3 p.m. This year's theme is Our Heritage, Our Future: Trusting in the Lord We Have Come This Far by Faith.
Guest speaker will be attorney Caroline Ayres-Brown, former Delaware Deputy Attorney General. She is the daughter of Mrs. Ruth Ayers and the late James Ayres of Dillwyn.
Music will be provided by the Buckingham Community Choir. Light refreshments will be provided after the service.
On Sunday, February 6, 3 p.m. at Buckingham County High School, a Love Benefit Service is planned for Damien Glover, a senior at BCHS, who is facing medical challenges.
The service will feature an afternoon of Praise and Worship with well-known groups including the Baptist Union Mass Choir, Zion Baptist Church Choir; Free Union Gospel Church Choir; and Denise and the Traveling Aires.
The newly formed program for Buckingham residents 55 and over is off to a good start.
Sponsored by the Buckingham County Department of Recreation, the program offers a monthly meeting, activities, so-cial events, and trips.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. in the VFW Hall on Route 60.
The February 8 meeting will feature a presentation by Hope Mell on Movement for Health, Strength, Balance, and Stress Reduction. After the program, light refreshments will be served and participants will have the opportunity to enjoy board games, bingo, and cards.
Please note that in the event of inclement weather the meeting will be cancelled if schools and/or county offices are closed or experience delayed openings.

Salem United Methodist Church is hosting a Valentine Dinner on Saturday, February 12, beginning at 6 p.m.
The evening will begin with a potluck supper. And then-the fun begins with games, music and heart-warming fellow-ship.
Everyone is invited so bring a covered dish to share and join with the Salem UMC Family for a great evening.
Salem UMC is located at 628 Ca Ira Road.
If you haven't completed your entry for the 2011 Arts and Crafts Exhibit sponsored by the Woman's Club of Bucking-ham County, it's time to do so because the entry date is just a week away.
This annual exhibit and competition covers a wide-range of arts and crafts and is open to the community.
Entries are due on Saturday, February 12. Members of the WCBC will be at the Buckingham Arts Center on that Sat-urday from 1 to 4 p.m. to accept entries.
On Sunday, February 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., the WCBC will host an Open House Reception featuring the work of stu-dents and adults. Winning entries from the Literary Contest will also be on display. You'll be able to view the exhibit, meet the artists and crafters, and enjoy light refreshments.

Virginia Cooperative Extension is hosting Bread Making 101 for Adults on Sunday, February 13, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Holiday Lake 4-H Center.
Chef John Lankford, who is also a 4-H volunteer, will be teaching ADULTS how to make yeast bread and rolls as well as challah bread.
If you have always wanted to learn how to make bread, this is a great opportunity to learn from an excellent bread maker.
And, even if you are a seasoned bread maker, you may be able to pick-up a tip or two or provide a few.

Mt Zion Baptist Church, in New Canton, is hosting a Children's Ministry Day on Saturday, February 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., for children ages 5 to 12 years-old.
With the theme Neighbor to Neighbor, the day will be filled with praise and worship. Activities include a Red Cross mis-sion project, craft, clown skit, puppet show, and prayer walk-all based on Love your neighbor as you love yourself, Leviti-cus 19:18.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and lunch will be provided.

The Auxiliary of the Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department will be sponsoring the Miss Buckingham Pageant again this year.
With age divisions and titles for young ladies ages three through 21, the pageant will be held on Saturday, March 5, in the auditorium of Buckingham County High School.
Registration for contestants is scheduled for Saturday, February 19, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the Dillwyn Fire Station, located on Route 15.
And speaking of the DVFD Auxiliary, here's a date to mark on that new calendar. The Auxiliary will host a CASH Bingo on Friday, February 25. Games begin at 7 p.m. However, the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. so that bingo players will be able to fuel-up with some great bingo boosting food. Bingo packets will be $20.
The Buckingham County Department of Recreation is sponsoring a trip for area youth to see the Washington Wizards play on March 20, at the Verizon Center in D. C.
Plans include leaving the Buckingham County Administration Building via a chartered bus at 8:30 a.m. and returning at 8:30 p.m. that evening.
Cost is $75 per child/youth. The fee covers the bus ride and the ticket for the game. All other expenses, i.e., for food and souvenirs, are the individual's responsibility.

Cloverbud Camps are designed to introduce children ages five to eight to the 4-H camping experience.
Participants experience the fun and excitement of the 4-H camping program as they learn new things, sing great camp songs, and play fun camp games. There is a trained volunteer leader for every five campers.

The 2011 Winter Cloverbud Camp is scheduled for February 25 through 27. Limited to 30 boys and 30 girls, campers will stay in heated bunkhouses.
Cost is $60 and covers all programming fees, meals, lodging, and a t-shirt.
Summer Cloverbud Weekend is planned for June 10-12. Summer camp is limited to 50 boys and 50 girls. Cost is $75 and covers all programming fees, special activity fees, meals, lodging, and a t-shirt.
