Barbara G. Galloway, of Farmville, transitioned peacefully on Saturday, July 20. She was 96.
Born in Washington, D.C., Barbara graduated from Miner Teachers College and Howard University, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, respectively. After 32 years in the District of Columbia Education System as a teacher, counselor and supervisor, Barbara retired with her husband and love of her life, George E. Galloway, eventually relocating closer to their immediate family in Farmville.
She was preceded in death by George, and two daughters, Claudia G. Logan and Carol G. Hurley.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Michael Robinson, Eric Hurley, Brian (Jennifer) Logan, April Hurley and Andrea Hurley (Jordan Hester); her niece, Jennifer Durham; six great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Aug. 10, at First Baptist Church, 100 S. Main Street, Farmville, VA 23901 at 2 p.m. Flowers may be sent to the church or donations may be made in Barbara’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital directly or online.
