JANUARY 25 – Christine Ray Sumpter was born September 24, 1924 to Frances Ray of Richmond. She departed this life on Wednesday, December 22, 2010. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the New Bethel Baptist Church in Meherrin.

Mrs. Sumpter was married to Sam Sumpter, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by Charles Ray and Priscilla Booker Ray. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, a brother, Donald Hewlett of Petersburg; two grandchildren, Charles and Chad of Brooklyn, NY; two devoted cousins, Estella and Evelyn; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held January 12 at New Bethel Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
