Tigers earn All-State honors

Some good news this week for Hampden-Sydney College, as several Tigers made the All-State teams in golf. Junior Nick Rubino has been named to the 2023-24 Virginia Sports Information Director’s (VaSID) College Division Men’s Golf All-State First Team, while freshman Jack Barnes has been named to the VaSID All-State Second Team.
Nick Rubino was ranked 31st in NCAA Division III, and 20th in Region IV, in the final 2023-24 SCOREBOARD powered by clippd rankings. Nick had a collegiate-low 73.85 scoring average through 10 tournaments and 26 rounds this past year. He posted collegiate-low scores of 67 for 18 holes, 142 (three times, ties) for 36 holes, and 210 for 54 holes. Nick posted a two-under par 72-70–142 that tied for first at The Tiger Invitational on March 10-11 and played at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Overall, he earned three Top Five and four Top 10 among seven Top 20 individual finishes with 12 rounds of par or better, and was previously named an honorable mention selection to the 2024 Division III PING All-America Men’s Golf Teams, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), and the 2024 Division III PING All-Region IV Team, as well as First Team All-ODAC.
Jack Barnes was ranked 100th in Division III, and 47th in Region IV, in the final 2023-24 SCOREBOARD powered by clippd rankings. Jack had a collegiate-low 74.32 scoring average through 10 tournaments and 25 rounds. He posted collegiate-low scores of 67 for 18 holes, 141 for 36 holes and 220 for 54 holes (two times). Jack posted a three-under par 67-74–141 that tied for first at the Kinder-Williams Invitational on September 11-12, 2023 and played at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg. Overall, he earned two Top Five and four Top 10 among eight Top 20 individual finishes with six rounds of par or better, and was previously named Second Team All-ODAC.
