JULY 3

FIREWORKS AFTER DARK — The town of Farmville will hold its annual fireworks celebration on Wednesday, July 3. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Main Street in the downtown area. There will be a children’s play area, music and of course, fireworks celebrating the birth of the nation. 

JULY 5

BLOOD DRIVE — Centra Southside Community Hospital will hold a blood drive on Friday, July 5 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. That’ll take place in the hospital’s First Floor Conference Room, with appointments being set up by calling Kerry Mossler at 434-315-3007. All blood types are needed, but especially O negative, A negative and B negative. 

JULY 6 

FISH FRY — The Ladies of Royalty of Farmville will sponsor an “Independence Day Fish Fry” on Saturday, July 6, beginning at 11 a.m. It will be held at the Masonic Lodge, located at 415 Griffin Boulevard in Farmville. The menu includes fish, fries and a drink for $10, a fish sandwich for $5 and drinks alone for $1.

MISSION FUNDRAISER — Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church, located at 14 Fitzgerald Road in Cumberland, will hold a chicken BBQ fundraiser for local missions on Saturday, July 6. The chicken will be ready by noon, with dinners going for $12 and chicken halves for $8. You can preorder by calling 804-492-5151. 

INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION — Pamplin will hold its 6th annual Independence Day celebration on Saturday, July 6, running from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the historic Pamplin City Train Depot. That’s at 115 N. Main Street in Pamplin. There will be a free meal of hot dogs, homemade baked beans, coleslaw, grilled veggies, chips, watermelon and chookies, then the Farm Use String Band will take the stage, with country dance tunes and dance callers, beginning at 6 p.m. 

MEHERRIN FOURTH OF JULY — This year’s Meherrin Fourth of July celebration will be held on Saturday, July 6, beginning at 11 a.m. with the Meherrin Fire and Rescue stew sale. The rest of the 38th annual event, including food trucks, music and fireworks, takes place at 102 Moores Ordinary Road. This part starts at 4 p.m., with fireworks happening after the sun goes down. 

JULY 5 – 7 

FAMILY REUNION — The Henry and Rosa Scott-Allen Family Reunion will be held July 5-7 in Farmville, at Southern Pines at Wedgewood. This will be the first family reunion for all descendants of Henry and Rosa. Only registered guests will be allowed and to register, call Carolyn Cox at 804-615-4183. 

JULY 7

HOMECOMING — St. Douglas Baptist Church, located at 151 Nelson Lane, will hold homecoming service on Sunday, July 7, beginning at 11 a.m. Worship will also be live streamed on the church’s Facebook page. 

VISIT WITH SISTER OPAL — Sister Opal Lee will be on hand on Sunday, July 7 at Jericho Baptist Church, during the 11 a.m. service. Lee is known as the grandmother of Juneteenth because of her efforts to make it a national holiday. 

JULY 8 

FELLOWSHIP MEETING — Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a nonprofit organization, will host their regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 8 at Pino’s Italian Restaurant in Dillwyn. Everyone pays for their own meal. 

JULY 9 

BEEKEEPERS MEETING — The Heart of Virginia Beekeepers will meet on Tuesday, July 9, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension Office. That’s located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. The program will include a live honey extraction. Anyone who has bees or is interested in bees is welcome. JULY 7-11

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL — The Farmville United Methodist Church will hold Vacation Bible School for children ages five to 11 from July 7 to July 11. “Camp Firelight” as this year’s event will be called, is a five-evening summer camp adventure, running from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. each night, with dinner included. JULY 10 

PORCH SALE — The Piedmont Area Veterans Council will hold its second Porch Sale on Wednesday, July 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. That’ll be held at 2650 W. Third Street in Farmville, with clothes, purses and other items available. 

JULY 11

CHEESY THURSDAY — The Piedmont Area Veterans Council will hold a ‘Cheesy Thursday’ fundraiser at Merk’s Place on Thursday, July 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with silent auctions and raffles. 

JULY 12 

ARTIST RECEPTION — Central Virginia Arts will hold an artist reception on Friday, July 12. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Riverside Cafe, located at 522 N. Main Street in Farmville. Exhibits will feature the photographs of Patsy Coderre and Paula Totten. 

JULY 14

HOMECOMING — Buckingham Baptist Church, located at 24234 North James Madison Highway in New Canton will hold homecoming services on Sunday, July 14, beginning at 10 a.m. Glory Bound Gospel Group will perform. At 11 a.m., Pastor Richard Long will deliver the message, with lunch following in the church fellowship hall. 

HOMECOMING — Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, July 11, beginning at 11 a.m. There will be a fellowship meal after the morning service, with an afternoon program at 2 p.m. Rev. Kevin Bolden, Pastor of the Oak Grove Baptist Church will deliver the message in the afternoon, with music from the New Jerusalem Mass Choir. 

HOMECOMING — Fork Union Baptist Church, located at 5952 Dixie Hill Road in Buckingham, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, July 14, beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch will follow the morning service. 

JULY 15-17

REVIVAL — Fork Union Baptist Church, located at 5952 Dixie Hill Road in Buckingham, will hold revival services July 15 to July 17, beginning at 7 p.m. Rev. Jason Holman will deliver the message Monday, with Rev. Adam Freeman preaching Tuesday and Wednesday. 

JULY 15-19 

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL — Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, located at 2272 Evans Mill Road in Dillwyn, will hold Vacation Bible School from July 15 to July 19. The event will run nightly from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a theme of “Breaker Rock Beach”.

NAACP MEETING — The Prince Edward branch of the NAACP will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 15 at the Moton Museum in Farmville. 

JULY 16

HISTORICAL SOCIETY — The Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, July 16, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Farmville Train Station. The group will learn about the construction of the Steel Viaduct at High Bridge, with more than 100 old photos on display of bridge construction. 

JULY 17-19 

REVIVAL — Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will hold revival services on July 17-19. Rev. Dr. Roscoe Cooper III, pastor of the Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Richmond, will deliver the message. Prayer and praise will start at 6:45 p.m. nightly, with worship at 7 p.m. 

JULY 20 

CRUISE-IN — The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its monthly cruise-in on July 20 at the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. That will run from 5 p.m. until dusk, with a 50/50 raffle. Residents are invited to bring their classic or antique automobiles or simply stop by to have a look. 

JULY 21

PASTOR’S AIDE DAY — Midway will celebrate their Pastor’s Aide Ministry during morning worship on Sunday, July 21. The guest minister will be Rev. Eddie Chastain and the church is located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville. 

JULY 22 -24

REVIVAL — Revival service will be held at Mercy Seat Baptist Church from July 22 to July 24. Prayer and praise starts at 7 p.m., with the worship service at 7:40 p.m. Guest ministers will include Rev. Daniel Oliver on Monday, July 22, with music from his choir at Pilgrim Baptist Church. On Tuesday, it’ll be Rev. Leon Jackson preaching, with music from his Zion Hill Baptist Church choir and on Wednesday, July 24, Rev. Ollie Bolden from Petersville Baptist Church will preach, with Anthony Tucker providing music.

HOMECOMING — The High Bridge Baptist Church will hold homecoming on Sunday, July 28, beginning at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served after morning worship and the church is located at 2526 Lockett Road.

REVIVAL — High Bridge Baptist Church, located at 2526 Lockett Road, will hold revival from July 31-Aug. 2. Prayer and praise begins at 7 p.m., with worship at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Wendy Lyle Jones will deliver the message on Wednesday, July 31, with music from the Apostolic of All Nation Choir. Rev. Michael Fowlkes will preach on Thursday, Aug. 1, with music from the High Bridge Baptist Choir. And on Friday, Aug. 2, Rev. Ernest Cleveland will speak, with music from the Reed Rock Baptist Choir.

HOMECOMING — New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 11, beginning at 11 a.m. The theme is “Home is Where the Heart Is,” taken from Psalm 90:1, with Pastor Irma Exantus delivering the message. Lunch will immediately follow the service.

REVIVAL — New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville, will hold revival services Aug. 13 through Aug. 15, beginning at 7 p.m. each night with a devotional service. Worship begins at 7:30 p.m. Pastor Irma Watson of Midway Baptist Church will preach on Tuesday, Aug. 13; Apostle Michael Mosely of Full Life Fellowship Ministries will deliver the message on Wednesday, Aug. 14 and Pastor Robert Waker of Forest Baptist Church will speak on Thursday, Aug. 15.

EXERCISE CLASS – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, holds an exercise class every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. It’s free and all are welcome to attend.

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP – Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT – An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon. 

FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. FARMVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. holds in-service worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday with Rev. Dr. Pete Smith. FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.

WORSHIP AND THE WORD – Appomattox Assembly of God meets every Sunday for a Worship and the Word service, beginning at 11 a.m. The church, led by new pastor Mark Bartow, is located at 1225 Confederate Boulevard in Appomattox.
