When is the Farmville splashpad going to open? That’s been a question popping up several times over the last month. And now, barring any unforeseen issues, it looks like we have a tentative opening date.
The concrete has been poured, both for the splashpad itself and the pump room. Dominion is working on putting power to the meter box and employees from Splash Zone LLC are back in town this week to finish installing equipment and address any further issues. Meanwhile, Farmville employees are working on the grading around the splashpad, getting the dirt moving, while several are being trained on how to operate it. So with all that in mind, when will it be finished? Farmville Town Manager Dr. Scott Davis gave a very tentative answer to that during the council’s Wednesday, June 5 meeting.
“(We’re) looking at potentially doing a ribbon cutting ceremony on the last Friday in June,” Davis said. “We would open it that day, that would be the goal.”
Back in September 2022, the town council voted unanimously to build the Farmville splashpad, placed on the same piece of property as Lions Park, but closer to the trail. Lions Park is located on West Third Street, at the entrance to the Wilck’s Lake island area. This splashpad will be approximately 5,000 square feet and is being built by Mesa, Arizona based Splash Zone LLC, using money from the town’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
