Two local college students were honored this month for their character and military discipline. The Judith Randolph-Longwood chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) gave out the ROTC Gold Medal and Certificate to Cadet Blake Sief from Hampden-Sydney College and Longwood University student Cadet Alexander Dale. Both were honored at the chapter’s May 9 banquet, held at the Woodland Community Center in Farmville. The ROTC Gold Medal and Certificate is awarded to a graduating college or university student being commissioned in one of the U.S. Armed Forces and who has demonstrated academic excellence, dependability, good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of the Reserve Officers Training Corps.
