I read with interest your recent article on the possible negotiation to save the Dunnington Mansion. Great Communities require Great Houses open to the public. Richmond has Agecroft Hall, a 16th century country house moved from Lancashire, England to Richmond’s Windsor Farms area by the late 19th century tobacconist and a contemporary of Mr. Dunnington, T.C. Wliiams, Jr. The Dunnington Mansion was locally constructed. The best example of a great house in the Farmville area is the Longwood House which has served as the residence of the college/university president since 1969. It is not open to the public. Saving the Dunnington Mansion would provide a historic link with the past and add economic impetus to the area’s commerce.
