Prince Edward Also Awaits Data

PRINCE EDWARD – The calendar says 2011, which means-with the 2010 census in the rear view mirror-it is the year to redraw electoral lines.
Still, it's not as easy as breaking out a box of felt-tip markers to redraw lines and balancing out populations in a county with eight districts.
“At this point, the County's awaiting the census data,” County Administrator Wade Bartlett told The Herald earlier this week.
Prince Edward is just in the formulation procedural process. The County staffer who typically handles redistricting is on medical leave.
“…We are looking at our procedures to adjust in his absence,” Bartlett said. “So, basically, we're just beginning now to look at the data and will run through the process…Basically, we're just at the beginning.”
The Commonwealth Regional Council (CRC), Bartlett also detailed, is willing to help and the CRC is looking at acquiring software to help member counties go through the process.
“…We'll have a (CRC) meeting this month and I'm sure that's gonna be a topic that we'll talk about,” Bartlett said.
There is no specific timetable as far as having a plan developed at this point. That, Bartlett detailed, is still being fleshed out. He also cited that some of that is going to be dictated by the state.
