Pauline Preston Womack Spencer passed away on Saturday, May 18. She was born in Farmville to Vernon Carter Womack and Mary Ella Wilkerson Womack. In 1958, she graduated as valedictorian of her class from Farmville High School. In 1962, she graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia, now University of Mary Washington, with a BA degree in mathematics. That same year, she married William Miller Spencer.

After teaching junior high and high school math in Macon, Georgia and Fostoria, Ohio, she moved with her family to Cary, North Carolina, where she lived for 58 years. Beginning as a teenager, she was a soprano soloist at Farmville Presbyterian Church, Farmville, and at several other churches into her adulthood. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Raleigh, North Carolina, where she was a member of the Chancel Choir and the Rick Brand Sunday School class. She was a volunteer at the North Carolina Museum of Art for 30 years and, more recently, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

She was predeceased by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, William Miller Spencer, of 62 years; her daughter, Mary Alice Spencer Taylor and her husband, Donny Henry Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; her daughter, Anne Preston Spencer of Charleston, South Carolina; her grandson, Garfield Spencer Fowler; her granddaughter, Mia Preston Fowler, and her sister, Emma Louise Womack Petoia of St. Petersburg, Florida.

The family will receive visitors at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, North Carolina on Thursday, May 23 from 6 to 8. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at the Womack family plot in Westview Cemetery, Farmville.
