Centra Southside Community Hospital (SCH) and Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital (BMH) recently earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national rating system.
With the spring 2024 assessment, Centra Lynchburg General Hospital and Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital transitioned from a “B” to “C” rating. Despite this change, Centra reaffirms its unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement and is actively addressing the areas highlighted by Leapfrog for enhancement.
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
“I congratulate the teams at Southside and Bedford on maintaining their “A” letter grades,” said Richard Tugman, interim President and CEO of Centra. “The hard work of our Caregivers is undoubtedly evident through these scores. At Centra, our teams are constantly working to improve patient quality, safety, and experience. We will use these results to continue to strengthen our commitment to excellent care for our communities throughout central and southern Virginia”.
“Everyone who works at SCH and BMH should be proud of these ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grades,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication at every level and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank Centra, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.
