Longwood SBDC To Offer Seminars

The Longwood Small Business Development Center offers the following 2011 Seminars:

Building Your Business: Are You Ready? – An introductory seminar for potential business owners that provides infor-mation to help your business be among the 20% that survive and thrive. Topics will include business start-up costs, fi-nancing, marketing and other key issues for developing a successful business plan. This seminar meets the second Wednesday of each month from 8:30-10 a.m. starting Jan. 11; the cost is free. It meets at the Longwood SBDC, 515 South Main Street, Farmville.

Basic Bookkeeping for Small Businesses – This seminar emphasizes the importance of financial management and re-cord keeping, basic concepts for setting up and using a manual bookkeeping system, and analysis of financial reports based on the principles. The seminar starts Jan. 19 and meets the third Wednesday of each month from 8:30-10 a.m.; the cost is a $10 prepaid fee. Meeting place will be announced.

Basic Payroll for Small Businesses – This seminar will cover managing a payroll starting with the initial setup, calculat-ing employee and employer deductions, determining net pay and reporting and record-keeping requirements to prepare paychecks. It starts Jan. 26 and meets the fourth Wednesday of each month from 8:30-11 a.m.; the cost is a $10 prepaid fee. Meeting place will be announced.
