Carril Vigness Benhoff, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on April 22, at the age of 83. She was born on April 8, 1941, in Washington D.C. to the late Irwin and Thelma Vigness.
Carril graduated from Washington Hospital Center School of Nursing in 1961 as part of its inaugural class and began her career in the newborn nursery. She ended her career serving as Director of Nursing at Eldercare in Farmville. Throughout her life, Carril remained dedicated to providing compassionate care to those in need.
Carril had a deep love for dogs and found joy in spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing board games with her grandsons and her friends from church. In the evenings, she liked to sit on the back porch and ‘rest her eyes’ sipping on a cold beverage. Her warmth, kindness and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carril’s family meant the world to her. She is survived by her children: Charles Benhoff and his wife Tamara, with children Will and Carl; David Benhoff and his wife Jenifer, with daughter Sarah; and Elizabeth McAndrew and her husband Michael, with children John, Daniel, and Michael McAndrew, Emily Anderson, and Connor and Cameron Strapp. She was also a proud great-grandmother to 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Apex Funeral Home on Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m., with burial to follow at Buckhorn United Methodist Church in Moncure. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Carril’s life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Hospital or Hillsdale College. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared on the Apex Funeral Home, Apex, North Carolina, website.
