Eileen Word Reynolds, 91 went to be with Lord on Thursday, Feb. 1. Born in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Jonah and Flossie Poe. Upon moving to Richmond in the 1940’s, she embarked on a long career for Safeway Stores and Richmart.
She was a proud member of the United Food & Commercial Workers Union for more than five decades.
Upon retiring, she often visited her grandchildren and explored many parts of historic Richmond with them. In 2001, Eileen would return to her childhood hometown of Buckingham. She was very active in the community and was a member of Mulberry Grove Baptist Church in Buckingham. She often visited Florida where her son and grandchildren relocated.
She loved to travel by car, plane, and train and make donations to various casinos. She was a very caring and loving person who would do anything for you. She had a love of music, could play various instruments and often sang on seniors’ day at the church.
Eileen was predeceased by her sons, Alphonso and Kenneth Word; first husband, Ben Word, second husband, Kenneth Reynolds of Buckingham and seven siblings.
She is survived by her son, Vernon (Susan) Word of Wellington, Florida; grandchildren, Andrea (Austin) Marvin of Jacksonville, Florida, Crews (Monica) Word of Jupiter, Florida and Briana (Bryan) Glynn of Lake Clarke Shores, Florida; great grandchildren, Ronin Word, Dylan Glynn and Layla Glynn of Palm Beach County and dozens of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn,16923 Oak St., 11 – 1 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 15. Interment at Westhampton Memorial Park, Richmond, 10000 Patterson Ave. at 2 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 16.
