BUCKINGHAM – If you are overscheduled and overworked, why not take advantage of the Spaghetti Dinner Drive Thru?
Browns Chapel United Methodist Church is hosting this Spaghetti Dinner Drive Thru on Friday, December 7, from 5 to 7 p.m.
You won't even have to get out of your vehicle. You just pull through the Browns Chapel parking lot and pick-up your dinners.
Meals are by donation; and, those donations will go toward the purchase of a new sign for the church.
Browns Chapel UMC is located north of Dillwyn, off Route 15, on Route 617, Gravel Hill Road.
The Buckingham County Community Tree Lighting will take place on Friday, December 7, at 7 p.m., on the Courthouse Lawn.
This will be the 22nd year for this annual event. The program begins with a flag ceremony by the BCHS JROTC and Amaris Wilbanks singing the National Anthem.
4-H members will be on hand to share the history of the tree lighting.
Buckingham Active Seniors, Buckingham County Elementary School Chorus, and the Youth Group of Warminster Church will be on hand to provide the gift of song.
Joyce Nelson, from the Buckingham Public Library will read a Christmas story to the children as they wait for a visit by Santa.
After the tree lighting ceremony, the Housewright House Museum, located across Route 60, will be open from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Along with the great decorations, there will be a special display of vintage yellow ware.
Then, on Saturday, December 8, and Sunday, December 9, the Housewright House will be open from 1 to 4 p.m.
Historic Buckingham will also open the Historic Village at Lee Wayside on the same Saturday and Sunday schedule, from 1 to 4 p.m.
At the Village, you'll be able to enjoy the beautiful period decorations along with hot cider and cookies.
To help with that Christmas shopping, HBI gift items and books will be available for purchase at both locations.
Among those gift items are the ever-popular Historic Buckingham calendars. The 2013 calendar, which is dedicated to the late Allen Gooden, features vintage photographs of people, places, and events in Buckingham including the State Bank of Arvonia, circa 1923; Nick's Market, circa 1940; a 1916 photo featuring cattle being herded through the Town of Dillwyn; and the 1957-58 Dillwyn Elementary School band.
Calendars are available locally for $8 at Nancy's Gifts, Dillwyn Pharmacy, and at the Housewright House and the Historic Village at Lee Wayside. However, they are also available by mail. Send a check for $10 to Historic Buckingham, P. O. Box 152, Buckingham, VA, 23921.
Please note that there is no charge for touring the Housewright House or the Historic Village at Lee Wayside. Of course, donations to help with the upkeep and maintenance of these true gems are always graciously accepted and appreciated.
It's auction time for the Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department. On Friday, December 7, beginning at 7 p.m., the firefighters will host their annual Christmas Auction, at the firehouse. Food and beverages will be available.
The inventory includes a great assortment of new and used items including tools, toys, household items, furniture, and lots of miscellaneous stuff.
Along with offering an opportunity for good bargains, this auction also provides an evening with neighbors and friends joining together to support a great cause-the AVFD.
Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church will be serving breakfast and lunch on Saturday, December 8, beginning at 7 a.m.
There will be an assortment of breakfast foods. The lunch menu features BBQ, Cole slaw, pinto beans, hot dogs and all the trimmings.
Donations will be gratefully accepted. Mt. Tabor UMC is located on Route 56, James River Highway.
On Sunday, December 9, at 7 p.m., the James River United Methodist Charge is presenting A Carol to the King, A Christmas Musical, written and arranged by Mosie Lister, and directed by Barbara Hays.
The program will be hosted at Glenmore United Methodist Church, located on Howardsville Road, Route 602, in Glenmore.
Everyone is encouraged to attend this special presentation. “We look forward to seeing you,” shared a spokesperson.
Cedar Baptist Church invites everyone to its Christmas program, What Does Christmas Mean to Me? The program is scheduled for Sunday, December 9, at 6 p.m. Rumor has it that Mr. and Mrs. Claus might stop by after the program-if they are not too busy checking their lists.
After the program, refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall.
Cedar Baptist Church is located on Route 650 at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn.
The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce is continuing its tradition of sponsoring a Christmas House Tour.
Scheduled for Sunday, December 9, from 4 to 8 p.m., the tour will feature six beautiful homes. The tour also includes a ride-thru the Historic Village at Lee Wayside.
This year's tour features the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Chick Childress, Mr. and Mrs. Darren Raynor, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. Seay Davis, and Mr. and Mrs. Tim McManus.
As an extra highlight, during the stop at the Hill home, you'll be able to view Roger's classic vehicle collection.
Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at Moss Motor or The Spa, in Dillwyn.
The 17th District Masonic Lodges are sponsoring an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, December 12, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
What better gift could we offer at Christmas than the Gift of Life through a donation of blood?
Those who participate in this blood drive will automatically be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a $1,000 gift card.
The Town of Dillwyn is hosting its annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 15, at 10 a.m. This year's theme is Home for the Holidays.

Students and staff at Central Virginia Christian School are getting ready for another special Christmas program, Christmas at Fort Faithful, on December 19, beginning at 7 p.m., in Jarman Auditorium at Longwood University. The doors will open at 6:15 p.m.
This musical drama not only celebrates the hope of Christmas but also honors our nation's armed forces. Fort Faithful is ideal for the entire family and everyone is welcome.
Tickets are $3 and may be purchased in advance through the school office or by calling (434) 969-4810. And, they will be available at Jarman on the night of the performance.
On Sunday, December 16, at 6 p.m., Hatcher Baptist Church is offering a very special gift, a musical drama, Mary's Christmas.
Sure, most of us believe in Christmas, that's why we're busy decorating, shopping, and getting ready for the holidays. But, Mary wants to know Do you REALLY BELIEVE in Christmas?
The cast includes the adult choir, youth choir, and other members of the church. Along with Pastor Cameron Cloud, they invite you to join with them for this evening of discovery-discovering the real meaning of Christmas with the help of Mary and a story that is sure to touch your heart.

The Buckingham Community Choir will present its Christmas Musical on Sunday, December 16, 3 p.m., at New Hope Baptist Church.
This special gift of music promises to enhance the celebration of this joyous season. The Choir invites everyone to join with them as they Behold the Lamb, Born in a Lowly Manger.
Patricia Read, of Lynchburg, will serve as guest director for this concert. Also, the Mt. Propero Choir and their pastor, the Reverend Patrick Bland, will offer the devotional.
The Buckingham Community Choir is dedicating this meaningful afternoon of music to the memory of Otto K. Washington, who was a dedicated member of the choir.
Everyone is invited. Following the program, light refreshments will be served. New Hope Baptist Church is located in the Gold Hill area on Route 610, at 1909 Cartersville Road.
On Friday, December 21, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Buckingham Agricultural Center, the Buckingham 4-H is offering youth ages five through 13 a day of creating Christmas presents, playing Christmas games, and enjoying other activities.

Now is a good time for youth ages nine to 18 who are not already part of the Buckingham 4-H Livestock Club but are interested in showing livestock at the Piedmont Junior Livestock Show and Sale in May to find out what they need to do to participate.
Livestock include market lamb, ewe lamb, market hog, steer, and heifer or feeder cafe.
