In an annual interpretive program designed especially for the holiday season, Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park will present a two-day open house at its visitor center, located at 6541 Saylers Creek Road (Route 617), Rice, on Dec. 8 (10-4 p.m.) and 9 (1-4 p.m.). The event, which is for all ages, features a photo opportunity with “Civil War Santa” and light refreshments.
The public will have the option of receiving either an electronic copy of the Santa photo through email or a hard-copy version. The emailed version will allow for subsequent editing, sizing, and reproduction suitable for Christmas cards or as family gifts.
The open house also will feature a silent auction of notable collectables, books, and other items sponsored jointly by the Friends of Sailor's Creek and Friends of High Bridge Trail, also at the park's visitor center on Dec. 8 only.
The purpose of the auction is to raise funds for the two Friends' groups to help support the development of public programs. At the same time, bidders have the chance to buy that unusual gift for that certain someone.
The event is free and will be held both days, rain or shine.
