BUCKINGHAM – If you are looking for a way to usher in the holiday season, here's a fun-filled yet affordable morning of food, shopping, crafts, and more. And, you'll be helping some worthy school-related organizations.

Santa's Breakfast will be held this Saturday, December 1, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the new Carter G. Woodson Education Complex located on Route 20. The complex includes Buckingham County Primary and Elementary schools.

The breakfast menu features sausage, pancakes, juice or milk, and coffee. Cost for the meal is $3 for adults and $2 for children ages three through 10. Children ages two and under get to eat free.

Santa will be setting up temporary headquarters and will be available for pictures. Cost for a photo with Santa will be $5.

Proceeds from the pancake breakfast and the photos with Santa will benefit the BCHS Prom Club.

Other activities include Mrs. Claus's Bake Shop, and Christmas crafts, both sponsored by the BCHS RAGU Club. Please note that there will be a nominal fee for the crafts.

A Holiday Store, sponsored by BCPS PTO, will offer children an affordable place to shop.

Food, shopping, crafts, baked goods, and photos with Santa-sounds like a Winter Wonderland for sure. And, it won't empty the wallet.

Hunting for Breakfast?

Whether you are hunting for that big buck or just a great breakfast-this meal is for you.

Sharon Baptist Church is hosting a Hunters Breakfast on Saturday, December 1, at the Glenmore Firehouse. Yep, the breakfast is being held at the Glenmore Firehouse.

Breakfast will be served from 6 a.m. until and the menu features sausage biscuits, biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, fried apples, and hot/cold beverages. Cost is a donation to Sharon Baptist Church for the fellowship-hall building fund.

So, that's Saturday, December 1, at the Glenmore Firehouse, located at 179 Firehouse Road, a short distance from the intersection of 655 and 602, Downtown Glenmore. Serving starts at 6 a.m.

Food Bank at Mourners Valley

Mourners Valley Baptist Church will provide its food bank services on Saturday, December 1, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the church. Mourners Valley Baptist Church is located on Route 20, at 5341 South Constitution Route.

DVFD Christmas Dance

The Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary will host their annual Christmas Dance on Saturday, December 1, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., at the Dillwyn Fire Station.

Ten Spot, a band from Virginia Beach, will provide the music for this annual holiday celebration. Admission, which is restricted to those 21 years of age or older, is $30 per couple and $20 for singles.

Christmas Program At Browns Chapel

On Sunday, December 2, at 6 p.m., the children of Browns Chapel UMC will offer a special Christmas gift to the church and community when they present their Christmas play.

Everyone is invited. Browns Chapel UMC is located on Route 617, Gravel Hill Road.

Spaghetti Dinner via Drive thru at Browns Chapel

Okay, Friday, December 7 offers several activities you don't want to miss-such as the annual tree lighting and the AVFD auction.

So, to make getting to these events a bit easier, the folks at Browns Chapel United Methodist Church are hosting a Spaghetti Dinner Drive Thru.

You'll be able to pick-up your dinners from five to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 7. Best part, you won't even have to get out of your vehicle. Just think, on your way home from work, you can pull through the Browns Chapel parking lot and pick-up your dinners.

Meals are by donation; and, those donations will go toward the purchase of a new sign for the church.

Browns Chapel UMC is located north of Dillwyn, off Route 15, on Route 617, Gravel Hill Road.

Tree Lighting Ceremony

The Buckingham County Community Tree Lighting will take place on Friday, December 7, at 7 p.m., on the Courthouse Lawn.

This will be the 22nd year for this annual event. The program will include great music, a Christmas story for the kids, a visit by Santa, and all the Christmas spirit you care to experience.

Housewright House and Historic Village

After the tree lighting ceremony, the Housewright House Museum, decked in its Christmas finery, will be open.

Then, on Saturday, December 8, and Sunday, December 9, the Housewright House will be open from one to 4 p.m.

Historic Buckingham will also open the Historic Village at Lee Wayside on the same Saturday and Sunday schedule.

At the Village, you'll be able to enjoy the beautiful period decorations while the kids make holiday arts and crafts. Hot cider and cookies will be provided. And, to help with that Christmas shopping, HBI gift items and books will be available for purchase.

Please note that there is no charge for touring the Housewright House or the Historic Village at Lee Wayside. Of course, donations to help with the upkeep and maintenance of these true gems are always graciously accepted and appreciated.

AVFD Auction

It's auction time for the Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department. On Friday, December 7, beginning at 7 p.m., the firefighters will host their annual Christmas Auction, at the firehouse.

Thus far, the inventory includes a great assortment of new and used items including tools, toys, household items, furniture, and lots of miscellaneous stuff.

Area residents who are sprucing up their houses for the holidays and want to rid their closets, garages, basements, and attics of unwanted items in good condition are reminded that the Arvonia firefighters would appreciate those donations for the auction.

Just drop items off at the building beside the firehouse or call Steve Toney at (434)581-3002 to arrange for pick-up.

Along with offering an opportunity for good bargains, this auction also provides an evening with neighbors and friends joining together to support a great cause-the AVFD.

Hunters Breakfast and Lunch

Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church will be serving breakfast and lunch on Saturday, December 8, beginning at 7 a.m.

There will be an assortment of breakfast foods. The lunch menu features BBQ, Cole slaw, pinto beans, hot dogs and all the trimmings.

Donations will be gratefully accepted. Mt. Tabor UMC is located on Route 56, James River Highway.

Cedar Baptist Church

Cedar Baptist Church invites everyone to its Christmas program, What Does Christmas Mean to Me? The program is scheduled for Sunday, December 9, at 6 p.m. Rumor has it that Mr. and Mrs. Claus might stop by after the program-if they are not too busy.

After the program, refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall.

Cedar Baptist Church is located on Route 650 at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn.

Christmas House Tour

The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce is continuing its tradition of sponsoring a Christmas House Tour.

Scheduled for Sunday, December 9, from 4 to 8 p.m., the tour will feature six beautiful homes. The tour also includes a ride-thru the Historic Village at Lee Wayside.

This year's tour features the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Chick Childress, Mr. and Mrs. Darren Raynor, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. Seay Davis, and Mr. and Mrs. Tim McManus.

As an extra highlight, during the stop at the Hill home, you'll be able to view Roger's classic vehicle collection.

Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at Moss Motor or The Spa, in Dillwyn.

Red Cross Blood Drive

The 17th District Masonic Lodges are sponsoring an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, December 12, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

What better gift could we offer at Christmas than the Gift of Life through a donation of blood?

Those who participate in this blood drive will automatically be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a $1,000 gift card.

Dillwyn Christmas Parade

The Town of Dillwyn is hosting its annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 15, at 10 a.m. This year's theme is Home for the Holidays.

Christmas at Fort Faithful

Students and staff at Central Virginia Christian School are getting ready for another special Christmas program, Christmas at Fort Faithful, on December 19, beginning at 7 p.m., in Jarman Auditorium at Longwood University. The doors will open at 6:15 p.m.

This musical drama not only celebrates the hope of Christmas but also honors our nation's armed forces. Fort Faithful is ideal for the entire family and everyone is welcome.
