PRINCE EDWARD – Benjamin Ray Murdock has announced his plan to run as an Independent candidate for Treasurer of Prince Edward County in the December 11 special election.
“I support the idea of splitting the Real Estate Tax into two payments and think that the same should be considered for the County Personal Property Tax,” says Murdock.
Murdock earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with a major in Accounting from Virginia Tech. He previously worked for Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville for more than 22 years. Murdock states that his experience in collections, financial statement preparation, accounts payable, personnel management, budgeting, and customer service uniquely qualify him to serve as Prince Edward County's next Treasurer.
Murdock grew up in Roanoke and has lived in Prospect for 26 years, where he currently resides with his wife, Jackie, and their daughter, Grace.
Serving as an active member of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department for 19 years, Murdock stated, “If you want to know who will go out of their way to assist you in the Treasurer's office, consider a volunteer. Volunteers respond at all times of the day and night unselfishly giving of their time to serve others in need.”
“If elected to the office of Treasurer,” he offered in his release, “I promise to do my best to serve the citizens of Prince Edward County in an honest and ethical manner.
