Falcons Move On In VCC Tournament

FARMVILLE – The Fuqua School volleyball team advanced to the Virginia Commonwealth Conference Volleyball Tournament Semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Amelia Academy on Wednesday night at Gilmer Gymnasium.
The Falcons (8-7), who split a pair of matches with the Patriots during the regular-season, won 25-17, 25-20, 25-23.
The victory was the fourth in a row for the Falcons, dating back to a 3-1 loss to the Patriots on October 18.
After starting the season 1-5, Fuqua has come on of late, winning seven of its last nine matches.
Caroline Bryant tallied nine aces and scored eight team points and six kills.
Caroline Wiles had two aces, two team points, nine kills and two blocks, while Taylor Schmidt scored four aces, seven team points and five kills. Heather Hicks registered nine kills.
The Falcons were scheduled to play top seed Tidewater Academy on Thursday night in the VCC Tournament semifinals at 5 p.m. at Kenston Forest.
Fuqua handed Tidewater its first loss of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Warriors on October 16 in Farmville.
The winner of that game will advance to the VCC Tournament Finals to be held at Kenston Forest on Saturday.
