RICHMOND, November 1 – On Tuesday, October 23, 2012, Gennie Saunders Pride, 95, of Richmond, formerly of Meherrin, was peacefully called to rest to be with her Savior. Born in Prince Edward County on February 13, 1917, she was the oldest of seven children. She accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Farmville, but New Bethel Baptist Church became her home church where she served faithfully.

Mrs. Pride was truly a hard worker. She took pride in every task she undertook. She faithfully instilled good values and character in her children and was proud of their accomplishments. Oftentimes, one would find her working in the garden surrounded by her children whom she deeply loved. After the passing of her beloved husband, her daughter Pauline, and granddaughter Carmen, lovingly took her into their home in Richmond to care for her. For sixteen years, she received impeccable care rendered by her caring family.

She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Davis and husband, Jim of New Jersey, Pauline Edmonds of Richmond, Annie Gillispie and husband, Herbert of Danville and Edith Rudd and husband, Clifton of Richmond; sons, John Howard and wife, Geraldine of Meherrin, and Earnest Pride of Richmond; sister, Marie Kindred of New Jersey; brother, Tom Mitchell Saunders of Baltimore; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul, daughter, Barbara and son, Paul Louis.
