Many of us have grown up hearing the Biblical story of a house built on the rock, versus the house built on the sand. In Matthew 7, Jesus tells a story that compares the building of two houses to the building of two different lives. One life is built upon sand, one upon the rock. As readers of this devotional, let’s apply this lesson to our lives. From a distance, many of our lives look similar. The life built on the rock and the one on the sand both get up, have breakfast, go to work, pick up a few groceries on the way home, and life goes on. But according to verse 25, one day the “the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against the house.” The house built on the sand fell, and great was its fall. The house built on the rock stood firm, enduring the storm. Many times, we think our life is just fine, but the storms will always test us.
In verses 24-25, Jesus tells us how to build a life that will weather the storms of life.
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand,” the verses state. The Word of God has stood the test of human history. Are you living your life according to the Bible, or humanistic ideas and thought?
One of the current trends of human thinking in our day is the foolish notion that we can change our sexual identity based on feeling or emotion. In the creation account of Genesis 1:27, we are told, “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.” Then about 4000 years later in Matthew 19:4 when Jesus was questioned, he said “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female?”
So how did we reach this point of sexual confusion? This thought is rooted in rebellion against God and His Word. In Romans chapter 1, the Bible clearly describes our fallen nature, our tendency to sin and rebel against God. In these verses it is stated how we are led down this path of homosexuality. Verses 21-22 say “For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools.”
Verses 24-27 meanwhile say “Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason, God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the women and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”
Locally, we are seeing this push upon us with drag queen shows, targeting our children in these vulnerable, impressionable early years. According to scripture, the education of children is the responsibility of the parent to oversee.
Many of our schools have gone astray into woke ideology, and now even local restaurants are embracing anti-God performances in the name of entertainment. If you want to build a life that is solid, build your life upon the Word of God. If we want a town that will be solid, we need to stand for the truth that has been handed down throughout human history, and originates with our Creator God.
