On October 6, 11 members of the Friends of the Appomattox River under the leadership of Lee Woodruff met at the Wilck's Lake Landing and dispersed in groups to clean up segments of the Farmville Blueway, the shore of Wilck's Lake, and the shores of Sandy River Reservoir and Briery Lake. Approximately 557 pounds of trash was collected, consisting of broken glass bottles, plastic containers, tires and assorted debris. This event was part of the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup and Stewardship Virginia.
