September 27 – “The greatest remedy for anger is delay.”
Only one week to the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department's Harvest Sale Saturday, October 6. This is a very good opportunity to support the fire department, which give so much to the community, see friends; and enjoy the food and auction. The auction will start at 1 p.m. The bake sale will start at 7 a.m. The yard sale will be from 7 a.m. until noon. Spaces are available to rent – contact Al Mason at 574-6625 for more information. The barbeque supper will start at 4 p.m. Food will be available all day! Anyone having any items to donate to the auction can call Pete Campbell, 547-8722, Al Mason, 574-6625, the firehouse, 574-9911 or any other firefighter to schedule a time to have the items picked up. Consignments will also be accepted for the auction – owner will be responsible for getting these items to the firehouse.
The Prospect Historical Society will have a table set up at the Yard Sale with items they are selling; sweatshirts, note cards, and tote bags.
The sanctuary flowers at Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle on Sunday were placed there in memory of Ray Kelsey whose birthday was Sept. 16.
Mrs. Frances Southall and granddaughter Taylor Southall met Mrs. Flora Bolt and Mrs. Alice Bartlett for lunch on Thursday Sept. 20 at the Golden Palace. Following lunch and good talk Flora visited Mrs. Ruth Southall, Mrs. Dot Shumaker, and Mrs. Page Johnson at the Woodlands.
Mrs. Peggy Kelsey has been very excited this week as she observed a white deer in her yard on Sunday evening; she has been hoping to see it again.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stockton accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Lester Goin of Hixburg traveled to South Hill on Monday where they met Mrs. Rachel Pearson of Lawrenceville and her nephew Gary Abernathy, Mrs. Frances P. Motley and son Rion of Hampton, Mrs. Jean Derrenbacker of Richmond, Mrs. Gwen Paulson of Chester, and Ms. Marsha Paulson and son Chase of Richmond. They met at Brian's Steak House for lunch and some good fellowship.
Mrs. Flora Bolt spent part of her birthday at the Farmville/Prince Edward Historical Society meeting Sept. 18. The society sang Happy Birthday to her. Following the meeting she finished celebrating at Dairy Queen with a banana split, joining her were Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bolt and Jennifer Bolt.
On Sunday Steve Bolt took his mother Mrs. Flora Bolt to Applebee's for lunch; joining them were friends from North Carolina.
Last Friday night Becky Powell and Linda Troyer hosted a supper at their home of which Mrs. Flora Bolt attended. Besides the good food they enjoyed uplifting music by Smoky Wilson.
Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Bolt and Joshua, Mrs. Flora Bolt, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bolt, Sandy Ridgley and Mrs. Linda Eikmeier of Henrico attended Joshua Bolt Day Sept. 22 at the Longwood Athletic Complex soccer field. The soccer team each year dedicates on day to Joshua in which they raise funds for him and tell something about him. This year the game was between Longwood University and Presbyterian College with Longwood coming out on top with a score of 2 to 1.
Neighbors, family and friends are praying for a speedy recovery for those that are sick at this time; Jean Penick Derrenbacker and Wanda Whitus.
Mark your calendars for Calvary Chapel's upcoming indoor yard-sale, which will be held on Saturday, September 29 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. to support ReNew We Care missionary work.
A 5th Sunday fellowship and dinner will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Prospect United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Kenny and Angel Spencer will share testimony and music which will be followed by a potluck dinner at 5 p.m. in fellowship hall. Meat and beverages will be provided and you are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Come and enjoy good music, fellowship and dinner at Prospect UMC which is located on Prospect Road in Prospect.
Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Joshua Simpson will be in the pulpit this Sunday.
The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with
worship at 11 a.m. This being the fifth Sunday there will only be Sunday School.
Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
