KEYSVILLE, August 23 – William Albert Hammock, 73, of Keysville, died peacefully surrounded by family into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. He was the son of the late Robert M. Hammock Sr. and Gertrude R. Hammock of Keysville.
Mr. Hammock was a “Class A” contractor and spent his life in the construction business. A lifelong member of Meherrin Baptist Church, he served as deacon and chairman of the Building and Grounds. He was founder and president of Cabin Six Hunt Club, and a loving husband and father.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Ferguson Hammock; sons, Mark A. Hammock (Belinda) of Meherrin and Timothy W. Hammock (Carolyn) of Farmville; daughter, Teri H. Childers (Phillip) of Keysville; son-in-law, William H. Green of Randolph; nine grandchildren, William H. Green Jr. (Samantha), Landon B. Green (Elise), Robert O. Hammock (Heather), Amanda C. Lee (Brian), Morgan H. Mahan (Shawn), Clinton T. Hammock (Kelly), P. Brian Childers Jr., Shannon and Dillon Hammock; great-grandson, William H. Green III; five brothers, Robert, Charles, Jene, Ralph and Richard; three sisters, Virginia Cobb, Betty Graves and Bernice Hailey; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, daughter, Anne H. Green, brothers, Logan and Raymond, and sister, Juanita Hammock.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, in Meherrin Baptist Church, Meherrin, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home on Friday, August 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
