BUCKINGHAM – Mt. Zion Baptist Church is hosting a Dinner and Movie Night on Friday, August 17. Dinner, which will feature a Taco Bar, will begin at 6:30 p.m.; and the movie will start at 7:30 p.m.
The movie, The Grace Card, offers a powerful message reminding that each day we have the opportunity to rebuild relationships and heal deep wounds by extending and receiving God's grace.
Suggested donation for adults is $7. Kids eat free; and, childcare will be available. All donations will be used to help with the cost of mailing the Samaritan Purse Christmas Child Shoe Boxes.

Salem United Methodist Church is celebrating Homecoming on Sunday, August 19.
This special day will kick-off with Sunday school at 10 a.m. At 11:15, the church's pastor, the Reverend Billy Swan will lead the homecoming worship service. After worship, there will be lots of great fellowship and food.
On Monday, August 20 through Thursday, August 23, revival services will be held each evening at 7 p.m.
Featured speaker will be the Reverend Alan Murphy. Special music will include Lindsey Absher and Butch Davis on Monday night, Dixie Hill Bluegrass Band on Tuesday, Wayne Gough on Wednesday, and Smokey Wilson on Thursday.
On Thursday evening, at the conclusion of the service, refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall.
Pastor Swan and the members of Salem UMC invite you to come and worship with them. Salem UMC is located on Route 632 on Ca Ira Road.
Mourners Valley is hosting a Youth Workshop on Saturday, August 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served.
Focusing on the theme, Trusting God in the Midst of My Trails, the workshop will be led by the Reverend Dr. Earl Pendleton, associate pastor of Mt. Zion 1st African Baptist Church in Charlottesville, for ages 13 through 18; and, the Reverend Michael Mosely, assistant pastor of Deliverance Church II, in Gladstone, for ages seven through 12.
This event is free and all youth ages seven through 18 are welcome.
Mourners Valley Baptist Church is located on Route 20, at 5341 South Constitution Route.
Please note that Mourners Valley Food Distribution Services will be closed on Saturday, August 18.
Unfortunately, the Senior Day planned for Saturday, August 25, at Ellis Acres Memorial Park in Dillwyn, has been cancelled.

The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is gearing up for hunting season by offering Hunter Education classes
The first course is scheduled prior to the start of school, which should be beneficial for younger participants. Classes will be held August 20 through 22, from 6 to 9:30 p.m., each evening, at the Dillwyn Fire Station.
The September class will be held at James River State Park on the weekend of September 21 and 22. Sessions will be held on Friday night from 7 to 9 p.m.; and on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. More details on this class will be forthcoming.

Enon Baptist Church will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, August 26. The day will begin with Sunday school at 10 a.m., followed by worship at 11:15. Lee Davis will be leading the Homecoming Worship Service with special music by Marilyn Snoddy.
After the service, the fellowship and good food of the traditional homecoming luncheon will be shared.
Homecoming will usher in three nights of Revival beginning on Monday, August 27 through Wednesday, August 29, at 7:30 each evening.
On Monday night, Bob Johansen will be the featured speaker with music by the Johansen Family. On Tuesday, Doug Adams will be in the pulpit and Faye Fisher will be singing. Revival will conclude on Wednesday with the message by Jimmy Dunn and music by the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choir.
The Enon Baptist Church Family welcomes you to join with them for the fellowship of Homecoming and the renewal of Revival. Everyone is invited.

Glenmore United Methodist Church will host its annual homecoming on Sunday, August 26.
This special day will begin at 10 a.m. with music by the James River Cut-Ups. The 11 a.m. worship service will include a message by the Reverend Brant Hays.
Following the service, the traditional homecoming lunch will be shared.
Revival services will be held Monday, August 27, through Friday, August 31, at 7:30 p.m. each evening.
Featured speakers include the Reverend Donald Collins on Monday; Reverend Jimmy Dunn on Tuesday; Reverend Billy Swan on Wednesday and Thursday, and the Reverend John Flood on Friday. Each night of revival will include special music.
At the conclusion of the service on Friday night, refreshments will be served.

Trinity United Methodist Church invites everyone to join with them for Homecoming and Revival.
Homecoming will be celebrated on Sunday, August 26, beginning with worship at 11 a.m. After the service, lunch will be served.
Revival services will be held Monday, August 27, through Wednesday, August 29, at 7:30 each evening. The Reverend Larry Mann will be the featured speaker.
Special music will include the First Baptist Church Choir with Cody Moss on Monday; Red Clay featuring Lindsey Absher and Butch Davis on Tuesday; and Worm Patterson and All Problems Solved on Wednesday.
Following Wednesday's service, a time of fellowship and refreshments is planned. Trinity UMC is located on Route 60 at 13463 West James Anderson Hwy, in Buckingham Court House.
Co-Ed Soccer Signups: Registration for ages four and five, based on age as of September 1, will be held on Monday, August 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at a location to be announced. Registration fee is $35 but will increase to $40 after September 1.

Hatha Yoga: Offered year-round at the Buckingham Agricultural Center with instructor Hope Mell, this class is open to adults of all ages and youth from age 12 and up. A daytime class is available on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. The night class is held on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. Cost is $30 for four consecutive session or $40 for six.
Yoga focuses on postures, relaxation, breath control, and mental concentration while improving flexibility, strength, and balance.
Participants are encouraged to wear loose-fitting clothing that does not restrict movement; and bring a yoga mat, large towel, or blanket.
Karate: Also offered year-round on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., with instructor James Walker, Karate offers an opportunity to learn discipline and self-defense while building confidence and character.
Classes, which are held at the Buckingham Agricultural Center, are open to children, ages four and above, and adults. Cost is $38 per month.

Heartland Outreach Ministries is hosting its first annual Cruise-In on September 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Millbrook Country Corner.
Trophies will be awarded in the various classes. Registration fee for vehicles is $15.
The event will also include 50/50, prize drawings, and a raffle for a Camo Browning 12 gauge auto shot gun. And, food and refreshments will be available.
Millbrook Country Corner is located on Route 15 at 3633 S. James Madison Highway.
Centenary United Methodist Church will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, September 2, at 11 am, with the Reverend Doug Paysour delivering the message. A children's church will be provided.
Immediately following the worship service, a covered dish luncheon will be shared in the fellowship hall.
After lunch, at 1:30 p.m., a time of special music is planned featuring the Reverend Maynard Jones and the Jones Family.
Revival services will be held on Monday, September 3, through Thursday, September 6, at 7:30 each evening. The Reverend Brant Hays will be delivering the message each night. Each revival service will include special music and a children's church.

The Curdsville Community Center is hosting a Yard Sale on Saturday, September 1, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the CCC.
Anyone that would like to reserve a spot to sell their wares is asked to contact Barbara Kragh at 392-6320; Marie Flowers at 315-0152; or Bettie Bass at 392-8360.
There is a $10 charge to reserve a spot. Participants are asked to set-up by 7:30 a.m. on the morning of the sale.
The Curdsville Community Center is conveniently located just off Route 15, on Route 633, School Road.
The Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual Labor Day Barbecue on Sunday, September 2, at the firehouse. BBQ will be ready at 2 p.m.
For a donation of $8, you'll get one-half barbecue chicken, Cole slaw, baked beans, roll, dessert, and beverage.
Meals will be available for take out or you can join with your neighbors and friends and enjoy your meal at the firehouse.
AVFD expresses its appreciation for your continued support of its barbecues and extends its gratitude to those who are willing to prepare and donate the desserts and baked beans.
The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce is continuing its tradition of sponsoring the Best Grandma and Best Grandpa Contest. Deadline for nominations is August 21, at 5 p.m.
Grandparents must be residents of Buckingham County. However, grandchildren, of all ages, who would like to nominate their grandparent or grandparents may reside outside of the county.
The nomination process involves writing a one-page letter stating why the grandchild feels his or her grandparent is the best. Or, the grandchild may want to use a simple form available at Moss Motor Company and the Buckingham Public Library.
