Astronomy Night Planned At High Bridge
Published 4:23 pm Tuesday, August 14, 2012
Enjoy a summer night under the stars Friday, August 17, on High Bridge at High Bridge Trail State Park.
This astronomy event will feature a sky tour of currently visible constellations and other interesting things, including the Summer Triangle and Milky Way. The planets Mars and Saturn, which have been in the night sky for several months, will be close together near the bright star Spica forming an unusual trio of lights. Participants will get a closer look at these and other celestial objects through tripod-mounted binoculars and a telescope (clouds permitting).
This program will be presented by Bruce and Karen Bellenir, local amateur astronomers and members of the Friends of High Bridge Trail State Park. The presentation begins at 8:30p.m. on High Bridge. Participants are encouraged to arrive at the River Road parking lot no later than 8 p.m. and proceed 9/10 of a mile to the bridge.
Be prepared to stay out after dark and remember to bring drinking water. For more information contact the park office at 434-315-0457 or email highbridgetrail@dcr.virginia.gov.
