JULY 16 – Helen G. Carter was born in East Orange, NJ, to the late Albert and Estelle Ghee and died on Thursday, July 2, 2009.

She attended public schools in Prince Edward County, received a B.S. degree from St. Paul College, Lawrenceville, and a M.A. degree from NYU, New York City.

Mrs. Carter gave 37 years of dedicated service to Prince Edward County, Pittsylvania County and Rockbridge County schools.

She joined the Monroe Baptist Church in Rice at an early age. Many years after her marriage to the late Alfred R. Carter, she joined the Oak Grove Baptist Church where she served faithfully until the Lord called her home.

She is survived by a brother, Albert Ghee of Spotsylvania, and two step-children.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery.

Bland-Reid Funeral Home, Farmville, is in charge of services.
