Richard D. Inge, 93 Retired Postal Worker Dies Tuesday, April 14

APRIL 16 – Richard Dabney Inge, 93, of Farmville passed away Tuesday evening, April 14, 2009 in Farmville. He was born March 21, 1916, in Appomattox County, the son of the late Dabney Richard and Mildred Paulette Inge. He was the husband of Rosa Martin Inge. They were married for over 66 years.

Mr. Inge was asked to serve as a deacon at the age of 21 for Rocks Baptist Church. He went on to be a Deacon at Farmville Baptist and at Heritage Baptist Church, where he currently was an active member. Richard served the United States in WWII with the U.S. Army Infantry division. He left Farmville with Company G, 116th Infantry division and he went in thirty minutes after H hour on D-day. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He is survived by his wife, his daughters, Diann Byrd Inge of Farmville and Jane Annette Inge and husband, Matthew Witkowski of Vienna; grandson, Jesse Mathias Inge Witkowski and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Nellie Roach, Zelia Ransone and Laura Richardson and three brothers, Buford, Toby and Claiborne Inge.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at Rocks Baptist Church in Pamplin with interment in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday evening (today) from 6-8 p.m. at the Puckett Funeral Home.
