Opha S. Walker, 102 Of Cumberland Dies June 4

CUMBERLAND, June 10 – Opha Susannah Walker, 102, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Southside Community Hospital of Farmville. She was born in Blount County, TN, on April 28, 1906 to the late John Houston Brickey and Nancy Josephine, and was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Clay Walker; a son, Brickey Walker; a granddaughter, Paula C. Lampkin, and a grandson, Carl Hogsett Jr.

Opha was a retired home-maker and farmer of Cumberland. She was a very strong woman who raised and supported her children. A member of Payne Memorial U.M. Church, she enjoyed her family, loved to cook and bake, and was an avid gardener.

Mrs. Walker is survived by her children, Lois M. Baber of Mechanicsville, William Walker and wife, Jean Walker of Sandston, Ronald Howard Walker and wife, Betty of Burkeville, Ann Mayer and companion, Herbert Brown of Farmville, Marjorie White and husband, Homer W. White of Cumberland, and Mary E. Cerveny and husband, William Cerveny of Powhatan; 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment Tuesday in the Brickey Family Cemetery.
