PRINCE EDWARD – Virginia State Police are still investigating an accident that occurred Saturday night (June 16) and claimed the lives of three pedestrians, according to information sent to The Herald by the State Police. The incident occurred at 10:31 p.m. on Route 460 Business approximately a mile from Route 460 in Pamplin in Prince Edward County.

Three males were standing in the middle of Route 460 Business when an eastbound 1999 Nissan Altima struck them, according to the State Police. The Nissan was traveling at an excessive rate of speed and all three men died at the scene, the State Police cited.

State police are still investigating the incident to determine the circumstances that led the three men, one from Richmond, according to police, one from Lynchburg and one from Pamplin, to be in the middle of the roadway, the information stated.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to Southside Hospital in Farmville for observation, according to the State Police. Her front-seat passenger, a female juvenile, was taken to UVA Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Her backseat passenger, a male juvenile, was not injured.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the information stated. According to the information provided by the State Police, charges are pending the completion of the investigation and consultation with the Prince Edward County Commonwealth's Attorney.
