Arthur Edwin “Pop” Mitchell, 92

PORTSMOUTH, June 14 -Arthur Edwin “Pop” Mitchell, 92, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012. He was born in Green County, Kentucky. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in WWII and U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict, retiring after twenty years of service. He later worked as an outside machinist in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

He was widowed by Marie Mitchell and later by Elizabeth R. Mitchell. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by a daughter, Linda L. Mitchell of Nellysford; a son, David E. Mitchell and wife, Bernetta of Portsmouth; sister, Clementine Longacre; brother, Willard; grandson, Jason Meeks and wife, Cori of Dillwyn; two great-grandsons, Daniel and Stephen; numerous nieces and nephews; a special daughter, Shirley Schnell; and his caregiver, Virginia Bump.

A funeral service was held Thursday, June 14, in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel by the Rev. Michael J. Putnam.
